Mark Spragg

A graveside service for Mark L. Spragg, 76, will be held January 30, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at Confidence Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family.

Mark L. Spragg was born December 2, 1949, in Des Moines, Iowa, to Myron and Inez (Ostrem) Spragg.

Mark graduated from Lincoln High School in Des Moines in 1968. In 1971, Mark married his high school sweetheart, Diana Johnson. Mark worked as a marketing salesman alongside his uncle, Dave Ostrem, selling cars. Mark went on to many different sales positions, he loved talking with people and could sell anything. Eventually he yearned for the country life and the family moved to a couple of different acreages near Runnells and Russell before settling in Promise City 31 years ago. He focused on becoming a machining engineer and went on to work at Johnson Machine Works in Chariton, Iowa, and Knight Rifles in Centerville, Iowa. They also farmed and ranched, raising horses. During this time, Mark refined his craft of leatherworking, building his own saddles.

In their younger years, Mark and Diana enjoyed many motorcycle trips across the country on bikes he had built or repaired. After the Lord blessed them with four children, motorcycle trips were a little more difficult. His deep faith and love for horses called Mark to help others through his horse ministries. The family ranch brand was 4S. Mark built a life centered on his faith, dedicating himself to the Lord and teaching the Gospel through Christian horse camps.

Mark is survived by his wife of 54 years, Diana (Johnson) Spragg; his children: Eric (Laura) Spragg, Brett (Christa) Spragg, Samantha (Andrew) Goodson, and Sierra (Jay) Simpson; eight grandchildren: Sydnee, Christian, Aleatha, Bretta, Bohdan, Ian, Zaden, and Jace; siblings: Ron (Kathy) Spragg, Steven (Aline) Spragg, and Christine Spragg; along with many beloved grand-dogs.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Myron and Inez Spragg, brother, Jerry Spragg; and sister-in-law, Carol J Spragg.
