Gus Woodrow McPherson

Gus "Woodrow" McPherson, Jr., age 82, of Camden, NC, passed away at Elizabeth City Health and Rehabilitation on Thursday, December 11, 2025. He was born in Camden, NC, on June 9, 1943, to the late Gus Woodrow McPherson, Sr. and Etta Sawyer McPherson, and was the widower of Judith Peffer McPherson. Woodrow was a dedicated farmer and man of varied interests. His passion for farming was matched only by his love for the great outdoors, where he found joy in hunting and listening to the hunting dogs run. Woodrow took great pride in supervising his boys as they worked on the tractors, sharing his knowledge and wisdom with them. He cherished time spent with friends, often enjoying meals together and creating lasting memories. Known for his playful spirit, Woodrow delighted in picking on his family, always bringing laughter and warmth to those around him. His presence will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
In addition to his late wife of 56 years, he is survived by a daughter, Elizabeth C. McPherson of Chesapeake, VA; sons, Gus McPherson, III (Theresa) of Camden, NC, Joseph McPherson (Sheila) of Camden, NC, and Scott McPherson (Barbara) of Camden, NC; a sister, Doris Hassell of Camden, NC; eleven grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; and special friends, Johnny and Mary Upton. In addition to his parents and wife, Woodrow was preceded in death by his daughter, Mary L. Gaskins, and brothers, John McPherson and Ed McPherson.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, December 15, 2025, at Geneva Baptist Church, with the Rev. Boyce Porter officiating. Burial will be at the McPherson Family Cemetery. A visitation will take place from 4:00 to 5:30 p.m. on Sunday, December 14, 2025, at Twiford Memorial Chapel.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations be made to Geneva Baptist Church, 806 NC Hwy N, South Mills, NC 27976.
The family wishes to extend their deepest gratitude to daughters-in-law Barbara and Sheila for their unwavering support and presence, sitting with Woodrow every day as his health declined.
