Gussie Owens Obituary
Age 103, of Elmira, New York, was born on April 19, 1919 in Rocky Ford, Georgia, daughter of the late Lucille Newton and Charles Bailey and passed away on September 15, 2022 at her home in Elmira, New York.
She was predeceased by her husband Edgar Owens; brother James Bailey; daughter Shirley Bailey; sons, John and Sidney (Candace) Anderson and stepson Willie Henry.
She leaves to mourn her daughter, Alfreda Collier of Brooklyn, NY; son Charles (Betty) Collier of Elmira, NY; stepchildren Shirley, Christina, Lester "LB", Edgar Jr. "Louie", Francine, Elise and Franker along with several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Gussie was employed at and retired from Chemung County Head Start. She was a member of St. Paul's Baptist Church where she volunteered and held many different positions.
The family would like to thank the entire staff of CareFirst for their attention and dedication to her care.
Family and friends are invited to visit Resurrection Tabernacle, 964 Lake St., Elmira on Friday, September 23rd from 10am to 12 noon. Her funeral service will take place there at 12 noon. Rev. Gerald Glover will officiate. Committal prayers and interment will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery.
