ENGLISH Gustavo Cruz Hernandez, a longtime resident of Watsonville, passed away on February 14, 2025, at the age of 58.
Gustavo was born on April 16, 1966, to his proud parents Aurelio Cruz and Abigail Hernandez, in Michoacan, Mexico. He later immigrated to the United States as a young man, with very little to his name. He was an ambitious man who worked hard to provide a good life for his family. He worked as a tile setter for over 30 years and left evidence of his hard work all over the Monterey Bay. He was excited for the future and studying to obtain his contractor's license. He had hopes of returning to Mexico and see his beloved mother once again.
On the rare occasion Gustavo wasn't working or busy building something, he enjoyed watching movies, dancing, and playing with the family dog Oakley. Above all, he loved spending time with his family, especially with his beloved grandchildren. He always made sure to have ice cream and popsicles for when his grandkids came over and they all sat in front of the TV to watch a movie. He will always be missed and loved.
Gustavo is survived by his loving wife of 30 years, Angelica Juarez, his five children, and his ten grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents Aurelio and Abigail.
A viewing and rosary will be held at Mehl's Colonial Chapel ~ 222 E. Lake Avenue on Sunday, March 9, 2025, from 5pm to 9pm, with the rosary starting at 7pm. The funeral mass will be celebrated at Our Lady Help of Christians Church (Valley Church) ~ 2401 E. Lake Avenue on Monday, March 10, 2025, starting at 10am with the burial to follow at Valley Public Cemetery ~ 2445 E. Lake Avenue at 11am. All events will take place in Watsonville.
