Guy Bayless Obituary

Guy Walter Bayless

December 2, 1941 - June 24, 2025

Bellingham, Washington - Long-time Bellingham physician, Guy Walter Bayless, M.D., died peacefully June 24, 2025, in Kirkland, Washington, with his loving family at his side. He was born on December 2, 1941, in Waskom, Texas, to Edward Stephens and Lucile (Duff) Bayless. He spent his younger years in Denison and Dallas, Texas, and graduated from Austin College in Sherman, Texas. It was there, on the steps of the music building, that he met his future wife, Judy Kay Wiser. They were married June 19, 1965, in Lubbock, Texas, and shared a marriage filled with love, music and adventure for the next 60 years.

After completing his medical training at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston and internship in Dallas, he served in the U.S. Army Medical Corps for the next eight years: first in Germany; then El Paso, Texas, where he completed his residency in Obstetrics & Gynecology, and finally in Fairbanks, Alaska. It was on the way to Alaska that Walter and Judy discovered the beauty of the Pacific Northwest. In 1977, they settled in Bellingham, Washington, where they raised their daughters, Allison and Laura, and Walter began his OB-GYN practice. For the next 30 years, he found joy in caring for his patients and bringing new life into the world. He was loved for his warm heart and compassionate approach to medicine and admired and respected by his colleagues.

Walter loved music, the beauty of nature, and creating special memories with his grandsons. He was a kind, gentle, patient, and generous man who was devoted to his family and friends.

He is survived by his wife Judy; daughters Allison (Corey) Hughes of Bothell, Washington, Laura Harder (Brad Flemmons) of Livermore, California; and grandsons Cameron and Danny Hughes, and Cade and Logan Harder; brother and sister-in-law, Steve and Marna Bayless, of Dallas, Texas; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Merle and Les White of Lubbock, Texas, and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a family reunion in Colorado.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial gifts to Dementia Support Northwest (www.dementiasupportnw.org). You are invited to share memories and messages of condolence with the family at the online guest book at the Moles Farewell Tributes website (www.molesfarewelltributes.com/obituaries).

We loved Walter. His voice-- strong yet soft was distinct. We remember Walter as such an amazing gift for his community and family -- whose life work touched so many with his care and compassion -- and carries on today for future generations. Wonder how many babies he brought into this world ? Gratitude

My sincere condolences to the family in memory of such a fine mentor, physician, and true caring gentleman. I worked with Walt at St. Joseph´s Cilsbirth Center from 1978 to his retirement, and had many a joyous and tremulous moments bringing life into this world! He loved his profession and served each woman with grand dignity and skills of the finest caring. Great memories of his twinkle and his enduring confident smile. Thinking of you, of him and know he will be greatly missed but now in peace...

Dr Bsyless was my doctor in both of my girls births, in 1979 and 1982. He was so kind, nice and gentle. He delivered both my girls with no incisions. How wonderful of a doctor he was!

I knew Walter as a neighbor and the husband of my good friend and fellow book club member Judy Bayless. One of
my fondest memory of Walter was when he agreed to attend our book club because he,as an OBGYN, had so much
knowledge about the subject of our book choice for a particular month. I will never forget the twinkle in his eyes,
the smile on his face and his total engagement in our book club discussion. We wanted him to become our first male
member! RIP Walter and our sincere condolences and sympathy to Judy and his entire family. Love to all. Judy
and Bob

So sorry for his family´s loss. He was a nice man, very caring and kind. I loved his Texas accent. He seemed to be a happy joy filled person.
He was my Dr. back in 80´s.

I did not know Dr. Bayless well, but he was part of an ob/gyn group of doctors that I was a patient of during the 1970's.
He and Judy attended St. James Presbyterian Church when my parents attended.
His daughter, Laura, became close friends with my parents during the 1990's. Since then, I have become a good friend of Laura's and we connect each time I visit San Francisco. I love her dearly and to me, she is like a family member.
I grieve for this loss, with her Laura and her family.
