Guy Cayton Obituary

Published by Legacy on Mar. 13, 2026.
Guy Talmadge Cayton went to be with the Lord on March 11, 2026, at his home in Auburn, Indiana.

Guy was born May 26, 1941, to Willy Guy Cayton and Ethel May Smith of Beaufort County, North Carolina. He was the fourth of six children. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sisters: Wila May, Doris, and Nina. He is survived by his brothers, Gerald and Don.

Guy is survived by his wife of 64 years, Mary Frances Walls. They were married on December 8, 1961. Together, they raised three sons: Tony (Kathy), Dean (Anita), and Marty (Joy). They were blessed with seven grandchildren: Steven (Emily), Erika (Shane), Jessica (Jason), Jaron (Sarah), Jedidiah (Courtney), Jenna, and Jocelyn (Harrison), as well as 14 great-grandchildren.

Guy served in the United States Air Force for four years, from 1959 to 1963. His career in electronics and communications spanned over 57 years until his retirement in 2017.

An avid music buff, Guy led the family band, where he played steel and rhythm guitar and sang alongside his beloved wife, Mary. He enjoyed living on "The Farm," where he raised cattle and watched his grandchildren grow. Guy also loved flying; he was an instrument-rated pilot and owned a Cessna 182, which he landed on the flight line he built in the middle of his farm.

Fishing was another of his great passions. Whether at the beach, on the Pamlico Sound with his brother-in-law Ray, or at the lake at his son's house, those moments brought great pleasure to everyone who joined him. He also enjoyed woodworking, creating several beautiful pieces of furniture for his family. Through that craft, he lived by the valuable lesson: "Measure twice, cut once."

Guy was saved as a young child and rededicated his life to the Lord Jesus Christ in 1984. While praying over a sick grandchild, he asked the Lord to take his own life and spare the baby's. Little did he know, the Lord would take his life and use it for His glory. From that moment, Guy surrendered his life to God's will. He was a powerful testimony of trusting the Lord in all things, applying the principles of God's Word to every aspect of his business and private life.

His life verse was Colossians 3:23: "Whatever you do, do your work heartily, as for the Lord rather than for men." Even during his illness, he would ask those serving him if they knew Jesus. When he no longer had the words to speak, he sang hymns with his family. He remained faithful until the end.

Husband, Father, Grandpa, and PeaPa-you will be missed by us all.
