Guy Ward Obituary
Guy Lupton Ward born May 7, 1931 passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday September 18, 2025 with his loving and devoted daughter Kay by his side.
He grew up in the Bethel Community of Columbus County, NC. the son of the late John C. Ward, Sr. and Dora Mae Bennett Ward.
He attended Williams Township High School, where he played both basketball and baseball. After graduating he attended Brevard College before joining the US Air Force, serving in the Korean Conflict and in Europe/North Africa/USA. It was during this time he married the love of his life and childhood sweetheart, the former Mildred Marie Andrews. After receiving his honorable discharge they returned back to Columbus County to live, where their only child, Kay was born.
In 1968 they moved to Wilmington where he began his career with GE. The family joined Trinity United Methodist Church in 1969, where he served on many committees, one being head usher for many years. He loved giving back to the community and was very proud to be among the first group from Trinity Church to volunteer for The Wilmington Area Rebuilding Ministry, (WARM). He was a longtime volunteer for the original Festival of Trees that benefited The Lower Cape Fear LIfeCare, and was very active in volunteering at Mother Hubbard's Cupboard.
After retiring from GE, he loved spending time with his family. One of his favorite pastimes was taking his daughter and grandchildren on his boat fishing and swimming around the waters of Wrightsville Beach, also he loved harvesting oysters and clams, and cooking and eating them. Another passion was his yard work. He took pride in his yard and continued to maintain a beautiful yard until his passing.
In 2023 he lost his beautiful wife of 70 years, and dedicated the rest of his life to his daughter and grandchildren. they were the absolute love of his life.
In addition to his wife and parents, he is predeceased by his sisters, Marthaleen Inman and husband Ford, Beatrice Gillette and husband, Bert; a brother, J. C. "Jack" Ward and wife Ruth.
He is survived by his daughter Kay Ward Lambert of Wilmington; two grandchildren, Cary Marie Lambert and her husband Tristen Pehrson of Richland, Washington, a grandson Cameron James Lambert of Auburndale, FL; numerous nieces, nephews and family members.
A celebration of his wonderful life will be held 11:00 AM Saturday September 27, 2025 at Trinity United Methodist Church, 1403 Market Street Wilmington by Pastor Brock Meyer officiating.
There will be a time of visitation one hour prior to the service in the fellowship hall downstairs.
Burial will follow at a later date at Bethel Memorial Cemetery in the Bethel Community, where he and his wife together will be laid to rest.
Memorials may be offered to Lower Cape Fear LifeCare also to Trinity United Methodist Church in honor of his memory.
No words can begin to describe my amazing father; he was loved and cherished by everyone and will be greatly missed by all that knew him. I love you so much daddy, and will miss you everyday of my life.
