Gwendolyn Evans-Colbert Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by North's Funeral Home - Abilene from Jan. 4 to Jan. 5, 2026.
Gwendolyn Evans Colbert 94, was granted her angel wings. January 3, 2026. Funeral service will be held Friday January 16, 2026 at 9:30am at North's Funeral Home 242 Orange St. with burial to follow at 11am at the Texas State Veteran Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday January 15, from 5-7pm at the Funeral Home. Her final days were spent surrounded by family and friends whom Gwendolyn had touched in some small way throughout her Christ-filled, yet very memorable life. Gwendolyn's life was blissful to many, but those who were touched by her understood that the quality of one's existence far exceeds the quantity of time in which one lives.
Her beauty brought great joy to our family. She was the glue that held the family together. She loved playing Skip-Bo with her children and grandchildren, especially Serenity, and enjoyed Solitaire at any time of day. Gwendolyn enjoyed music, whether it was blues, oldies, or gospel. She loved each of us individually-no favorites... well, maybe one (Tironda). Bonnie was her sidekick; they went everywhere together.
Gwendolyn J. Evans Colbert was born on November 7, 1931, to Henry Jordan Jr. and Katherine Golden in Van Alstyne, Texas, a small town outside of McKinney, Texas. She later moved to Abilene, Texas, where she attended school. She was the oldest of four girls and was a faithful member of North Tenth and Treadway Church of Christ in Abilene.
Gwendolyn is survived by her loving husband, Dock Colbert; her children, Joe Hughes, Rogenger Pierre (Leedy), Marilyn Age (Ernest), Guinevere Evans, Bonnie Evans, Jovita Turner, and Shannon Evans ("Salt & Pepper"); and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren, as well as nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her sisters; her eldest daughter, Linda Hopkins; her grandson, Robert D'Wayne Williams; and her eldest granddaughter, Tasha Hughes.
Gwendolyn was deeply loved by her entire family and will forever remain in our hearts.
