Gwendolyn Gomez Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Broussard's Mortuary - Nederland on Mar. 29, 2026.
Gwendolyn Rita Gomez, the fiercely loving heart of her family, was called to Heaven on March 27, 2026. She leaves behind a legacy defined by her warmth, her devotion to her loved ones, and a wonderfully colorful personality.

Born on September 27, 1955, in Port Arthur, Texas, Gwen graduated from Nederland High School in 1975. That same year marked the beginning of her greatest chapter: marrying the love of her life, Gerzain Gomez, in February of 1975. Together, they shared fifty-one beautiful years of partnership, building a family and a lifetime of cherished memories.

Gwen spent twenty-six years of her career serving as a paraprofessional with the Nederland Independent School District (NISD). She made a lasting difference in the lives of many children, families, and co-workers, bringing her genuine kindness and fun-loving spirit to the schools she served.

Above all else, Gwen's greatest joy in life was her family. Raising her three boys-Ashley, Torrey, and Whitney-meant a home filled with laughter, pranks, and memorable moments. She handled the beautiful chaos of motherhood with grace, though she was known to keep a belt nearby just in case her boys' antics needed a little reining in.

Gwen was known for her vibrant personality and, as her family can fondly attest, a famously strong will. She could be a little ornery at times, but that steadfast, fiery spirit was just part of what made her so deeply loved. She approached life on her own terms-almost always while wearing a pair of flip flops from her beloved and extensive collection.

Later in life, her favorite "hobby" became spoiling her grandchildren. She was a fixture at their extracurricular activities, always cheering them on and bursting with pride over their accomplishments.

She also treasured the time she spent with her friends, affectionately known as the "Bunco Beauties," whose company always brought her joy. Gwen loved the simple pleasures in life, whether it was doting on her sweet Maltipoo, Lila Rose, or eagerly anticipating her next delivery as an avid Amazon Prime shopper.

Gwen is now reunited in peace with her father, Harrell T. Fowler; her mother, Janice Fowler; her brother, Harrell Fowler; her sister, Deborah Carrell; and her grandson, Whitney Chase Williams.

She will be profoundly missed by her surviving family: her devoted husband, Gerzain Gomez of Nederland, TX; her sons and daughters-in-law, Ashley and Melissa Gomez of Nederland, TX; Torrey and Natalie Gomez of Nederland, TX; and Whitney and April Gomez of Labelle, TX; her cherished grandchildren, Britton, Briley, Daphne, Chloe, Bentley, Mabrey, Paisley, and Brayden; and many extended family members and dear friends.

Gwen will be remembered for her unwavering love of family, her sense of humor, her beautifully stubborn streak, and the incredible joy she brought into the lives of everyone who knew her.

A gathering of Mrs. Gomez's family and friends will begin at 8:30 a.m., with her funeral service at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, March 31, 2026, at Broussard's, 505 North 12th Street, Nederland. Her interment will follow at Oak Bluff Memorial Park, Port Neches.
