Mrs. Gwendolyn Eugenia (Gwen) Mitchell age 93 and a lifelong resident of Jackson, calmly passed away early Wednesday morning September 3, 2025, at the Westbury Center of Jackson for Nursing and Healing where she had resided since December of 2017. She was born Tuesday December 8, 1931, in Jackson to the late Bennie & Lucille Cook. She graduated from Jackson High School in the class of 1948. Mrs. Mitchell was well known in the Jackson Community and was the former owner or manager of several local restaurants including the C&S Restaurant, Bantam Chef and B&G Bakery. She was also a personal health care provider for several years before her health began to fail.

Mrs. Mitchell is survived by two daughters; Shellee Bryant of Jackson and Genia Burnsed (Tom) of Zebulon along with six grandchildren; Travis Hunton, Jessie Clemons, Dalton Hunton, Jessica Bryant, Mitchell Bryant and Spencer Bryant. She is also survived by her sister, Betty Ruth Thompson of Locust Grove.

A memorial Service for Mrs. Gwendolyn Eugenia (Gwen) Mitchell will be held Sunday September 7, 2025, at 2 PM in the Chapel of Haisten Funeral Home, Mr. Rudy Mangham will officiate. The Family will receive friends at the Funeral Home beginning one hour prior to the Service. Please dress casually.
