Gwendolyn Banks Phillips, age 82, of Louisville, KY, passed away on Sunday, January 19, 2025, at The Enclave of East Louisville.
Born in Knott County, KY, she was the daughter of the late Coy Banks and Mattie Combs Banks. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald Don Phillips; brother, Carley Banks; and sister, Olive Scott.
Her heart held an immense capacity for kindness, a trait that was evident in everything she did. Gwendolyn's love for her family was a force of nature, a profound sentiment that guided her actions and shaped her life. Her family was her source of joy, and her ultimate pride. In their company, she found happiness, solace, and a sense of fulfillment that made her life complete.
A nurturer by nature, Gwendolyn found her purpose in caring for others. This passion was not confined to her family alone; her caring nature extended to her community, becoming a lifeline for many who found themselves in need of support. Even in her later years, when she moved into an assisted living facility, her commitment to lend a helping hand remained undeterred.
She is survived by her children, Sherry Cox (Alan), and Chris Phillips (Angie); grandchildren, Jessica Kremer (Zach), Jordan Schwartz (Connor), Cassidy Hoffmann (Andrew), CJ Phillips (Kenzie), Chase Phillips, and Aubrey Phillips; great-grandchildren, Kennedy, Carly, Colton, Salem, and Rowyn; and by numerous other family members and friends.
Visitation will be held from 12-1 pm on Friday, January 24, 2025, at Vankirk-Grisell Funeral Home, where her funeral service will follow at 1 pm.
