Gwenith N. Stone, a kindhearted and gentle soul, passed away peacefully at her granddaughter Lori McCay's home in Knox on Tuesday, August 5, 2025. She was 90 years old. Gwen was born on June 15, 1935, in Cleaton, Kentucky to the late George "Edward" and Abigail (Shemwell) Mathis. In 1970, she and her family made their home in the Culver area, coming from Oak Lawn, Illinois. On December 11, 1954, she married the love of her life, James "LeeRoy" Stone, who preceded her in death in 2002. Their nearly 50 years of marriage was filled with deep love and commitment. Gwen retired from a career as a laborer, but her most important work was the love and care she gave to others. She had a heart of gold and truly never met a stranger. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and caregiver-always willing to help those in need. Her nurturing spirit touched the lives of many, whether it was through offering a listening ear, a warm meal, or simply a kind word. She enjoyed spending time on her computer and loved relaxing with a good word search puzzle. More than anything, Gwen cherished her family, who meant the world to her. She was especially proud to be a grandmother and loved watching her family grow through generations. Gwen is survived by her children: Don Stone, Roy (Brenda) Stone, and Peggy (Edward) Pinder; several grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Her legacy lives on in each of them. She was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband LeeRoy; one daughter, Gail; a daughter-in-law, Jackie Stone; and her brother, Herschel Mathis. Family and friends are invited to pay their respects on Monday, August 11, 2025, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM CDT at Rannells Funeral Home, Hamlet Chapel. A funeral service will follow at 1:00 PM CDT. Gwen will be laid to rest beside her husband in Burr Oak Cemetery. Gwenith Stone's warm smile, gentle spirit, and loving heart will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
