H. Lamar Owens, age 87 of Forest, VA passed away on Thursday, March 26, 2026 at Lynchburg General Hospital. He was born in Patrick County on February 27, 1939, to Guy Lamar Owens and Emogene Hughes Owens. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Marilee Janelle Owens Schmidt; two brothers, Jeffrey LeRoy Owens, S. Ronald Owens; and a nephew, Bruce Hughes Schmidt.
Mr. Owens proudly served in the United States Air Force and was stationed in Crete, Greece. He served his Lord faithfully as deacon and Sunday School teacher for over 25 years at North Bedford Baptist Church in Forest, VA. He retired from Nationwide Insurance Company as Virginia Regional Claims Manager after 29 years of service. He also enjoyed his time volunteering with his wife for Meals on Wheels, along with other organizations. He was an avid gardener, and enjoyed playing golf.
He is survived by his wife, Darla Owens of Forest, VA; two daughters, Allison Paige Owens (Thomas Fredrick Woiwode), LaJolla, CA, and Audrey Lamar Owens (Neville Kodkani), Muenchenstein, Switzerland; three grandchildren, Aline Owens Woiwode, Aurélie Owens Woiwode, and Kian Kodkani Owens; nephew, Glen Brooks Schmidt (Dawn), niece Beth Ann Owens Lugar (David), and nephew Bruce’s widow Brigitte Schmidt.
Funeral service for Mr. Owens will be held on Thursday, April 2, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Creasey Chapel Church with Pastors Tammy Franklin and Jim Nelson officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military honors provided by the Patrick County Veterans Memorial Honor Guard.
