Hal Bowman Obituary
Hal Lamar Bowman Sr., age 84, passed away peacefully on January 4, 2026 at his residence in Cabot, Arkansas.
Hal was born on November 23, 1941, in Hardeeville, South Carolina, to William Abbott Bowman and Eula Barker Bowman. He was the youngest of nine siblings.
He was an artist and a carpenter, creating beauty and usefulness wherever he went. Hal had a playful, goofy side when the moment called for it-often singing little songs, telling stories, and bringing joy to the children around him. He had the heart of a servant, never spoke an ill word about anyone, and his genuinely kind spirit left a lasting impression on all who knew him.
Hal worked for Leggett/Belk Department Stores as a visual merchandising manager, where his creativity truly shined. Some of his children's fondest memories are of the magical Christmas window displays he designed and built. He later continued this work with Sara Lee, bringing the same imagination and excellence to his role. In his later years, Hal worked as a salesman for Slocum Adhesives, where he eventually retired.
More than any title or career, Hal was known as the best dad and grandpa in the world. He was sweet, kind, and gentle, with a special love for children and a deep, unwavering love for Jesus. He was an amazing husband of 64 years to his wife Joyce. He truly loved his wife as Christ loved the church. His faith guided his life, and he lived as a devoted and faithful Christian, quietly reflecting Christ's love through his actions.
Hal is survived by his wife of 64 years, Joyce Bowman; his children, Donna Bowman Fields (John), Hal Lamar Bowman Jr. (Amy), and Angelia Hall; his grandchildren, Niko Magras (Jessica), Jesse Magras, Caitlin Hall, Savannah Hall, Jonathan Fields (Jon), Haley Buchanan (Jake), Maddie Hale (Richard), and Luke Bowman; and his great-grandchildren, Millie Buchanan, Benji Buchanan, and Willow Magras.
He leaves behind a legacy of faith, love, creativity, gentleness, and joy. Hal will be deeply missed and forever cherished by all who knew and loved him.
"But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength.
They will soar on wings like eagles;.
they will run and not grow weary,.
they will walk and not faint."
- Isaiah 40:31.
The visitation will be on Saturday, January 24, 2026 from 12 noon until 1:30 p.m. The funeral to honor Hal's life will follow at 2 p.m. in the chapel of the funeral home with burial to follow at Hillcrest Abbey West Cemetery.
