Hal Leonard Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Olpin Family Mortuary on Jan. 27, 2026.
Hal A Leonard, 61, of American Fork, Utah, passed away suddenly and unexpectedly at his home on Monday, January 26, 2026.

Hal was born to Grant H Leonard and Judy Anderson Leonard on April 9, 1964. He was the oldest of three children.

Hal loved spending time with his family and friends. As a kid, he delighted in racing cars and received multiple trophies. He also enjoyed wrestling. As he grew older, Hal appreciated hunting, camping, boating, and all things outdoors. He especially loved doing these things with his dad and family. He joined a Jeep Club for some time and enjoyed going for rides.

Hal began working at Hill Air Force Base in 1985. He was a machinist and relished his work. He always had fun stories to share about his co-workers and the guys he carpooled with. He retired earlier than he planned to when COVID-19 and his Type 1 Diabetes put his health at risk. He was presented a retirement flag in April 2020 and treasured watching the F-35s taking off as he left Hill Field for the last time after more than 35 years of faithful and honorable service.

Hal was a great storyteller. He did not often make a fuss about himself, but rather shared stories of friends and family. He was a quiet observer and painted wonderful portraits of loved ones in his anecdotes. He frequently wore a big, warm smile, and ended nearly all of his tales with a big belly laugh.

Hal was a homebody and enjoyed watching westerns and NASCAR. He liked to read and research his family genealogy. While he enjoyed being at home, he also ideated of one day visiting Alaska.

Hal is survived by his mother, Judy, who he visited every day; his brother, Robert H Leonard (Michelle); his nieces and nephews, Aubrey Nelson (Ryan), Brooke Leonard (Klay Campbell), Corbin Leonard (Almeda Morales), Sean Kam, and Chainda Kam; and seven grand-nephews and grand-nieces, Maximus, Gaius, and Tybalt Nelson, and Jacksen, MaKaileigh, Remingten, and Brynleigh Leonard. He is preceded in death by his father, Grant H Leonard, and his sister, Stephanie Leonard.

A Graveside Service will be held Saturday, January 31, 2026 at 1:00 PM in the Pleasant Grove City Cemetery. Condolences may be sent to the family at olpinmortuary.com.
