Sandra Bennett Obituary
Obituary published on Legacy.com by Olpin Family Mortuary on Jan. 21, 2026.
Sandra Kay Bennett entered eternal rest on Sunday, January 18, 2026, in Draper, Utah. Sandy was born on March 3, 1947, in Nebraska to parents Lloyd Glen and Gayla McClellan (Payne). She was the second of 8 children. Her father was in the army, so her childhood consisted of many moves and lots of traveling. Among the places she lived were Germany, Japan, and multiple US states. The family finally settled in Rock Island, Illinois where Sandy graduated from high school.
After high school, she decided to serve a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and was called to the Okinawa, Japan mission in 1969. After returning home, she attended college at Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah. This is where she met and fell in love with Richard Bennett from Brigham City, Utah. They were married in the Logan Utah Temple on June 11, 1971. Shortly thereafter, she graduated from BYU with a degree in Education.
They lived in Utah until an opportunity came to teach at a school on the Navajo Reservation near Winslow, Arizona. They moved in 1973 to Seba Dalkai where Richard would spend the next 30 years teaching. In 1976, they moved into town where they would raise a family of 2 boys and 3 girls.
Sandy's interests included reading, listening to classical music, genealogy, and coaching soccer. Eventually the kids grew and moved away but Sandy and Richard stayed, living in the same house they had bought in 1976.
Richard retired in 2005 and passed away later that year. Sandy continued to live in Winslow until 2021. She then moved to Lewisburg, Pennsylvania to live with her sister Judy. This move allowed her to spend more time with her sisters and to see her brother Brian. They enjoyed some amazing trips.
In July of 2025 she moved to Utah. She quickly integrated into the assisted living facility where she made many friends and enjoyed arts and crafts, participating in her church branch, and going to the temple.
Sandra is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Richard, brothers Robert and Brian McClellan, and daughter Kristina Bennett. She is survived by 4 children: Jared (April) Bennett, Jacob Bennett, Tara (Larry) Black, Eileen Brimley; 5 sisters, 12 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, January 24th in the River Eighth Ward chapel at 1540 West 10400 South, South Jordan, Utah. Family and friends may attend a viewing prior to the service from 9:30 am to 10:45 am. There will be another viewing on Saturday, January 31st at Greer Mortuary in Winslow, Arizona at 10:00 am followed by burial at 11:00 am at Desert View Cemetery.
We would like to thank the staff at Valencia of Draper and Serenity Hospice of Utah for taking such good care of our mother. They talked fondly about her loving personality and the time they spent together sharing stories and laughter.
