Hannes Hugo Alfred Greiner died peacefully at home surrounded by family on

August 11, 2025. He was born in Breslau, Germany on June 29, 1938 and immigrated with his parents and siblings to the US in 1957 under the sponsorship of Roswell United Methodist Church. The family resided in Roswell, GA for a time, then moved to the Toco Hills area of Atlanta, GA.

Hugo is preceded in death by his parents Johannes Joachim Greiner and Leonore Heinsch Greiner, and his sister Sybille Greiner Barr. He is survived by siblings

Christina Greiner Smith, Claus "Dick" Greiner, and Hannelore Greiner Blanco; his former wife Francine Greiner, their children Katy Greiner Cochran (Stacy), Tony Greiner (Tracey Fedor), and Nicki Greiner Sinkler (Scott), his grandchildren

Blake and Ally Cochran, Bela Greiner, and Conrad, Eric, & Kaitlin Sinkler and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Hugo never met a stranger and could speak to just about anyone about nutrition and sports, especially cycling. His passion for fitness extended to his professional life where he trained athletes in nutrition and fitness, imparting his knowledge and discipline to others. He was an avid cyclist, kayaker, soccer player, swimmer, Tri-Athlete, and an Iron Man. He took many rides through various countries in Europe, the Caribbean, and the US accompanying a long distance runner or other cyclists. Hugo ran many Peachtree Road races including one with his son-in-law Stacy and grandson Blake. His last big bike ride was from Atlanta to Miami in 2016 at the age of 77.

Hugo had an unwavering work ethic. He was always repairing, cleaning, or tinkering with something. He began working in the US as a mechanic for Jake Johnson's Garage. After marrying, Hugo returned to Germany with Franny where he attended medical school in Heidelberg, and their first two children were born. They returned to the US to reside in the Emory area where their third child was born. He worked in the Anatomy Department at Emory University for several years as well as in many Urgent Care Centers in the Atlanta area. Dick's Sporting Goods was his final employer where he was able to do what he loved, building, repairing, and selling bicycles. His passion for cycling showed with every bike he built and every customer he helped to find the perfect bicycle.

A proud and loving father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend, Hugo will be deeply missed and never forgotten. He was very devoted to his children and grandchildren. They will remember his attention to detail, desire for perfection, and love of the outdoors, especially the beach.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Bearing Bike Works, a charity that teaches children to build and repair bikes in Atlanta. Please use the
