Hans Walter Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Northside Chapel Funeral Directors and Crematory on Feb. 11, 2026.
Mr. Hans Joachim Walter, age 78, of Roswell, Georgia passed away Saturday, February 7, 2026. Hans was born on February 8, 1947 in Bad Tolz, Germany, son to the late Hans Herbert and Dorothea Waltraud Walter.

Hans immigrated with his family to the United States in 1956. He served in the U.S. Army from July 1965 – June 1968, completing two tours in Vietnam with the 1st Cavalry Division and receiving the Army Commendation Medal. After graduating from Temple University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, he accepted a job with Duriron Company in Jacksonville, Florida. There, he met his wife, Penny Price, and the marriage was blessed with two children, Ryan and Loren. Hans and Penny eventually settled in Roswell, Georgia in 1980, where they raised their children, enjoyed a robust social life, golfing and boating, and many adventures all over the world together.

A boating enthusiast, Hans enjoyed getting his family out on the water of Lake Lanier each and every weekend during the summer. Whether it was the power of a Cigarette boat, the gentle sway of the Sea Ray cabin cruiser or the sleek prowess of his Cobalts, Hans loved tending to his boat collection.

A lifelong card player, Hans enjoyed sitting around the euchre table with his friends and neighbors and sharing a good laugh well into the night. This love of cards later translated into any family game proposed by his grandchildren.

Hans had a knack for connecting with people and he touched many lives. As a life long salesman, he knew how to bring people together. His witty sense of humor and knowledge of just about any subject ensured his ability to connect with anyone whose path he crossed. Hans' smile and laugh were contagious and his influence will remain in the lives of all who knew him.

Along with his parents, Hans is preceded in death by his brother, Ralph Albert Walter, and sister, Christine Martinoff Smith. He is survived by his wife, Penny; sister, Marion Leonard; and two loving children: son, Ryan Douglas Walter of Roswell, Georgia; daughter, Loren Walter Stoner of Virginia Beach, Virginia; as well as 5 grandchildren: Price, Wilson, Penn, Ellis and Kat.

The celebration of life for Hans will take place on April 18, 2026 from 2-5p.m. at Hans and Penny's home in Loch Highland: 3867 Dundee Drive; Roswell, Georgia.
