Hansel Roger “Gabe” Fleming, age 88 of Kingsport, TN, was sent to his eternal home on Wednesday, November 12, 2025. Born on April 16, 1937 to the late T.J. & Gladys Fleming in Virgie, Kentucky. Gabe graduated from Gate City High School in 1957. He was a standout athlete, playing as a wide receiver on the football team and held the Virginia state record in the 100-yard dash. In 1959 Gabe married the love of his life, Barbara Collins, sharing a lifelong commitment of partnership and enduring love. After graduating Gabe proudly served his country in the United States Army, achieving the rank of Specialist 5 (SP5). He was stationed in Augsburg, Germany until he was honorably discharged in recognition of his honest and faithful service on March 31, 1966. In May of 1966, Gabe publicly professed his faith and continued a lifelong commitment to the Lord and became a member of First Assembly of God Church, Kingsport. Gabe later completed specialized training in 1975 through the International Correspondence Schools of Scranton, Pennsylvania, earning a certificate in Electrical Machinery and Measurements, reflecting his dedication to continued learning and craftsmanship. After working in the family business he completed his career working at Eastman, retiring in May of 1999.
Gabe enjoyed spending time with family above all else. In his free time he loved tinkering with motor engines, whittling wood, coming up with jokes and taking great joy in putting smiles on the faces of his children and grandchildren. He was the go-to handyman for family and friends, always ready to help on any repair or project.
He was preceded in death by his parents, T.J. and Gladys Fleming; his in-laws, Ed and Alice Collins; siblings: Jack Fleming, Peggy King, Bob Fleming, and Dan Fleming.
