Harlan Schlueter, 78, of Milbank, SD, passed away on Saturday, February 10, 2024, at St. William's Care Center in Milbank.
Memorial Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 15, 2024, at Mundwiler Funeral Home in Milbank. Memorial Service will follow at 3:00 p.m. Rev. Justin Neugebauer will officiate. Inurnment will be held at a later date.
The service will be live-streamed and recorded and will be viewable at the bottom of this page.
Harlan Gordon Schlueter was born on November 16, 1945, to Gordon and Nellie (Rudnick) Schlueter in Appleton, MN. He was baptized and confirmed into the Lutheran faith. Harlan attended school until the 9th grade when he then started his career as a milk hauler. He enlisted into the United States Army on March 21, 1968, in Benson, MN and fought in the Vietnam War. He was later honorably discharged in 1969.
He was united in marriage with Arlene Elaine Pearson on September 12, 1970, at Louisburg Lutheran Church in Louisburg, MN. They were blessed with two sons: Steve and Mike. Harlan worked for Appleton Creamery as a milk hauler for numerous years. The family moved to Milbank, SD where he then worked for Dakota Granite.
He was a member of the V.F.W Post #3486 and American Lutheran Church in Milbank. He was a member of the Appleton Trailblazers Saddle Club and drill team for many years. Harlan spent his free time raising colts, competing in horse shows and making many memories with friends and family at trail rides. He was a big fan of fishing and would spend hours tinkering with his pontoon. If he was at the farm, you could find him outside looking at the tractors and watching the horses in the pasture. He most of all enjoyed spending time with his grandkids.
Harlan is survived by his wife, Arlene Schlueter of Milbank, SD; two sons: Steve (Tonya) Schlueter of Corona, SD; and Mike (Kim) Schlueter of Clontarf, MN; sister, Judy Hursh of Appleton, MN; brother, Lowell (Kay) Schlueter of Dayton, OH, four grandchildren: Jordan (Katelyn) Schlueter of Watertown, SD; Kasi Schlueter of Corona, SD; Tate Schlueter of Corona, SD; Cheyenne (Blayne Meier) Schlueter of Pipestone, MN; two great-grandchildren: Roper and Bronclynn Meier and another on the way; one nephew, Jeremy Schlueter; and three nieces: Pam Hursh; Camille Hursh; and Kimberly Schlueter; brother-in-law, Wayne Pearson. Harlan was preceded in death by his parents: Gordon and Nellie Schlueter; aunts, uncles, and in-laws.
