Harold Franklin Bower, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully at his residence on July 2, 2025. Born on October 29, 1941, in Fairmont, West Virginia, Harold lived a life deeply rooted in faith and service.
Harold dedicated six years of his life to the United States Navy, serving proudly as a pilot. His commitment to service extended beyond his military career, as he enjoyed volunteering with Samaritan's Purse, reflecting his humble spirit and dedication to helping others. Harold was known for always putting the needs of others before his own, showcasing a profound sense of generosity that touched the lives of many.
In his personal life, Harold was a devoted family man. He enjoyed a loving marriage with his wife, Mildred "Middy" K. Bower, with whom he shared 61 years, 6 months, and 2 days of companionship. Together, they built a nurturing family that includes their sons Matthew Bower (Jeanette) and Lawrence "Larry" Bower (Sarah), along with their daughter Cheryl Wendt (Scott). Harold also leaves behind a legacy of love in his grandchildren—Arianna Bower, Donovann Bower, Jace Bower (Shannon), Priscilla Bower, Celia "CeCe" Bower, William "Will" Bower, Kathleen Wendt, and Charles "Charlie" Wendt. Additionally, Harold was a proud great-grandfather to Eden Bower and Selah Bower, further enriching his family's tapestry.
Harold is survived by his loving family, who held a special place in his heart including his sister-in-law’s, Joyce Bower and Becky Hayes (Manouchehr). He was preceded in death by his parents Edwin Forest Bower and Hazel Horne Bower; brother Charles Bower.
The family will gather to honor Harold's life on July 9, 2025, at Beam Celebration Center in Marion, North Carolina. Visitation will be held from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM, followed by a funeral service beginning at 6:00 PM with Reverend Jace Bower officiating. A reception will follow the service. Interment will take place on Thursday July 10, 2025 at 10:00 am at the Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery with military honors provided by the US Navy.
Memorials may be made to the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association or Samaritan's Purse.
Harold Franklin Bower will be remembered not just for the roles he played in his family and community, but for the love and kindness he shared with all who knew him. His legacy will continue to inspire those left behind, forever reminding them of the importance of family, faith, and selfless service.
