Mr. Elkins, 33, of Oakdale, entered eternal rest on Saturday, February 7, 2026.
Dewayne lived like he was chasing the horizon full throttle, wide open, no brakes. Every single day he squeezed every drop of life out of the moments he was given. He was a thrill-seeker through and through; the word "no" was more of a challenge than a boundary. All it took was a dare, a grin, and the promise of an adrenaline rush, and Dewayne was already halfway there whether it was jumping something ridiculous, racing down backroads, or trying whatever wild idea someone came up with. He didn't just live; he burned bright.
To the few he called true friends, he was everything. Dewayne didn't hand out the title lightly, but once you had it, you had him for life. Loyal to the bone, ride-or-die in the purest sense he'd drop everything, drive through the night, stand in the fire, and never once ask for anything in return. That kind of friendship is rare, and those who had it know they were loved fiercely.
Above all else, Dewayne was a daddy. His world revolved around his two beautiful children: his daughter, Kenley Kate Elkins, 8, and his son, Ace Graham Elkins, 6. No matter how hard the days got, no matter how loud the demons roared, those two little hearts were his anchor, his reason, his light. They brought out every ounce of good in him, and he fought every battle with them in mind. To Kenley and Ace, he was their hero bold, loud, and larger than life. They thought the world of him, and he thought the stars rose and sat on them.
His journey here was far from easy. It was marked by storms, struggles, and scars. Yet even in the darkest chapters, Dewayne never quit. He kept getting up, kept pushing forward, kept loving the people who mattered most.
He was preceded in death by the two women who shaped his heart: his beloved mother, Tina Elkins, and his sister, Lacy Jane Elkins. We can picture it so clearly Tina waiting at the gates, eyes squeezed shut from smiling so wide, arms already open, saying, "Come here, baby boy, I've been waiting." The reunion we've all been longing for finally happened. Momma finally got her baby back. He was also preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Deryl Cole; his paternal grandfather, Harold Elkins; and one cousin, Bubba McDaniel.
Dewayne leaves behind his children, Kenley and Ace; his father, Harold Dewayne Elkins, Sr. of Oakdale; three sisters, Ashley Elkins of Oberlin, Stephanie Monk (Billy Joe) of Oakdale, and Adrienne LeJeune (Levi) of Oakdale; two brothers, Lucas Elkins (Makenzie) of Oakdale, and Tyler Dickens (Holly) of Conroe, Texas; eight nieces, Jacee Monk, Marlee Monk, Keilee Hebert, Bailey Elkins, DaniLynn Lawrence, Krosley Elkins, Kaisley Elkins, and Stormi LeJeune; six nephews, Gage Monk, Greyson Monk, Colton Hebert, Ayden Murphy, Trenton Elkins, and Madden Elkins; and his maternal grandmother, Evelyn Elkins of Zachary; along with a circle of friends who will carry his memory like a tattoo on their souls, and countless others whose lives he touched in ways they'll never forget. He's gone now, but not in the ways that matter most. The pain is finished. The battles are over. The broken pieces are whole again. Dewayne is at peace restored, laughing that big laugh, free at last, right where he belongs, wrapped in the arms of the mother who loved him first.
We will miss him every single day, but we rest in the quiet certainty that he's finally home. Forever in our hearts… Get your rest D. We'll see you on the other side.
