Harold Gordon Floyd, 91, of
Ocala, Florida, wen to Heaven to meet his Lord Jesus Christ on March 3, 2026 and was greeted by family members, relatives and friends. He had been residing at Ocala Health and Rehabilitation Center for the last several months.
Harold was born in
Oxford, Florida on May 9, 1934 to the proud parents of James Gordon Floyd and Ruby Rachael Hurst Floyd. He attended Oxford Elementary and Jr. High Schools and graduated for Wildwood High School in 1952, where he was active and excelled in football, baseball and basketball. He also attended Central Florida Community College.
He enlisted in the Untied States Air Force in January 1953. He graduated form Aircraft Maintenance and Inspection School, Sheppard Air Force Base, Texas, 1954; was selected for Strategic Air Command Non-Commissioned Officers Academy, 9156 and graduated with the 2nd highest honors; was chosen by the Academy Staff as Troop Commander and Instructor in Military Justice, Speech and Military Drill. He was Honorably Discharges in 1957 and entered Active Reserve Duty in February. He was recalled to active duty during the Berlin Crisis and recalled for a special 33 day tour of duty in Vietnam. He graduated USAF Flight Engineer School, Donaldson Air Force Base, SC in 1961.
Upon discharge from the Air Force, Harold entered private business and at one time he owned and operated the following: Floyd's Citgo Service, Jack & Jill Playschool, Floyd's Trucking & Transfer, Citgo Bulk Distributorship, King Car/Truck Rental, Floyd Motors and Floyd Manufacturing and Ocala Auto Auction. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Ocala for over 68 years, an ordained Deacon, Sunday School teacher and an adult Choir Member. Of all the awards he received in his life, he was most proud to have been voted a Life Deacon.
Harold was active in professional and civic organizations, as well as community service. He was a member of the Ocala Exchange Club, where he served two terms as President, State President and four years a National Vice President; a member of the Air Force Association National Security Council, and a member of the Marion County Sheriff's Emergency Rescue Squad. He was Deputized, bonded and commissioned Deputy Sheriff, Flying Search and Rescue Team. He was elected to the Marion County School Board and served as Chairman. He served as Chairman of the Aviation Committee, served four years as Chairman on the Billy Graham Film Crusade, served as Treasurer for the Exchange Club Center for Prevention of Child Abuse. He was a member of the Ocala Elf Lodge, where he served three terms as Exalted Ruler and on other committees and projects.
He married the love of his life, Barbara Ann Scott, in 1960 and they enjoyed 65 years together. He had two children: Leslie Rae Floyd Couch and Harold Gordon Floyd II "Hal" (Kerry). He is survived by his beloved wife; two loving children; grandson, Brandon Floyd (Justyne); brother-in-law, Robert Scott (Sandra); sister-in-law, Genny Floyd; several nieces and nephews and his dog, Sport. He is preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Erma Floyd Jeffers (Christy A. "Jeff") and brothers, Earl Floyd (Barbara), Arnold Floyd (Betty) and Howard Floyd.
Harold truly enjoyed life. He loved his family, church, friends, his country and sports, especially The Gators, where he spent many a Saturday afternoon cheering at the Swamp. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, flying his plane, camping n his motor home, traveling, boating and gardening.
His Celebration of Life Funeral Service will be held at 12:00pm on Saturday, March 14, 2026 at the First Baptist Church of Ocala, 2801 SE Maricamp Road with burial to follow at the Pine Level Cemetery,
Oxford, FL. The family will be receiving friends for a visitation one hour prior to his funeral service, from 11:00am to 12:00pm at the church. Roberts of Ocala Funeral Home will be handling arrangements. Flowers are welcome, or a donation in Harold's honor may be made to a
charity of your choice.
