Harold was born in Norwalk, to Jeannette (Jones) and Bernard Freeman. He graduated from Norwalk High School and Earlham College. Before completing his BA, he took a year off, joining New Mobe (New Mobilization Committee to End the War in Vietnam), organizing and helping oversee a protest in Washington, D.C., against Nixon's inauguration known as the "In-HOG-uration."

After completing his BA degree, he obtained a JD at Ohio Northern University and, in 1973, was admitted to practice law in Ohio. He joined the family law firm of Freeman and Freeman in Norwalk, where he practiced alongside his father and uncle, later becoming a senior partner. He served as a Common Pleas Court Magistrate under Judge White, was a member of the Huron County and Ohio State Bar Associations and practiced law for over 50 years.

Harold was a remarkable auto mechanic, crossed the US twice by motorcycle, remodeled his 150-year-old home, was a fan of classic science fiction, and told groan-inducing puns.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Thomas Freeman.

He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Katherine Wieczorek; his son, Dylan; his sisters, Janet Freeman (Paul Solman) of Boston, Massachusetts, Frances Myers (Michael) and Margaret Scheid, both of Norwalk; and nieces and nephews.

Funeral service will begin at 1 p.m. Saturday, October 4, 2025, at St. Paul's Episcopal Church at 87 West Main, Norwalk, with the Rev. Brian Wilbert presiding. Harold's committal to the columbarium and refreshments will follow.
