Harold Lynn Grigsby, affectionately known as Harold, a steadfast pillar of the Marshall, Texas community, passed away peacefully in his birthplace on October 31, 2024, at the age of 88. Born on May 26, 1936, Harold's life was a testament to his enduring love for his family, his passion for life, and his remarkable ability to connect with those around him on any subject, from the intricacies of sports to the rich history of East Texas. He was a devoted husband to Naomi Ann Grigsby for 67 remarkable years, a loving father to his children, Kenny (Kaye) Grigsby, Brad (Dea Ann) Grigsby, Jill (Kenny) Davis; his daughter-in-law, Stacey Shaw Grigsby and a cherished patriarch to his many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Harold's legacy is carried on by his grandchildren, Heather Courtney (Chris), Paige Hall (Jason), Derick Grigsby (Megan), Cory Grigsby, Madison Wiggins (Justin), Morgan Grigsby (Jeremy), Meagan Luna (David), and Kenzie Murphy (Trevor), as well as his great-grandchildren, Jolie Preston (Donaven), Sawyer Whaley, Lexi Pinson, Addi Pinson, Ty Grigsby, Jagger Grigsby, Jase Hall, Jack Hall, Judson Hall, Drake Williams, Baker Thomas, Lane Wiggins, Lynden Wiggins, Granger Luna, Parker Luna, Merritt Murphy, Grigsby Murphy, Hawkins Murphy and one great-great-grandchild, Poppy Preston. He is also survived by his sisters, Jeanette Kincy (Carroll) and Caca Green, who, along with numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family members, will fondly remember his stories and wisdom. Preceding him in death were his beloved parents, John Willis Grigsby and Bonnie Mae Watson; his son, John Wesley Grigsby; his daughter-in-law, Marianne Blalock Grigsby; his sister, Shirley Hensley; and his brother, Kenneth Neal Grigsby. Harold's family takes comfort in knowing that he is reunited with his loved ones who passed before him. Harold's professional life was marked by his tenure as a heavy equipment operator for the H. B. Zachary Company, where he showcased his skill and dedication for many years. His work ethic was unparalleled, but it was his personal interests and hobbies that truly captured the essence of his vibrant character. An avid race car fan, Harold's enthusiasm for NASCAR and Grigsby Racing at Boot Hill was infectious. He relished in the thrill of the race and the camaraderie of fellow fans. His love for sports extended to watching football, baseball, and basketball, always cheering on his favorite teams with fervor. Harold's zest for life was not limited to the racetrack or sports arena; he also enjoyed the simple pleasures, like savoring a good margarita. Yet, it was his time spent with family that he cherished the most. He took a keen interest in the lives of his grandchildren, always inquiring about their ball games and academic achievements, just as he had with his children. His ability to engage in conversations on a multitude of topics made him a beloved figure among his family and friends. He was a man who loved a good joke as much as he loved telling one. His humor brightened the lives of those around him, bringing laughter and joy to any gathering. Harold also served as the family historian, a role he embraced with pride. He could recount family stories with such detail and affection that it brought the past to vivid life for his listeners. Harold's departure leaves a void in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. He will be remembered as a man of integrity, humor, and profound wisdom.
