Harold James Hymer, 91, of Richmond, Kentucky, formerly of Waynesville, OH, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 12, 2025, surrounded by loved ones.
Born January 19, 1934, in Madison County, Kentucky, Harold was the son of the late Johnnie Godfrey Hymer and Almedie Lainhart Hymer. A proud American, he served honorably in the United States Army during the Korean War from 1952 to 1954 in the trenches of North Korea.
He is survived by: his brother, Johnnie (Elaine) Hymer II, of Scott County; sister, Shirley Hymer Ruble, of Scott County; step son, Greg Jones, of Dayton, OH; grandchildren, Christy (Keith) Isaacs of Berea, KY, Tara Hymer, of Mitchell, IN, and Nicole (Michael) Rodriguez, of Syracuse, IN; Ashley Jones, of Franklin, OH, and seven great-grandchildren. He also leaves behind many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Harold was preceded in death by: his parents; his wives, Minnie Bea Hymer and Geraldine Singer Hymer; his son, Justin Hymer, Syracuse, OH; sisters, Bonnie Cox, Katherine Bach, and Laura Harrison; and nephews, John David Baker, David Mitchell, Daniel Bach, Gary Russell Cox.
Services will be held on Saturday, August 16, 2025 at 1:00 PM at the Combs, Parsons & Collins Funeral Home, W. Main St., Richmond, with Bro. Artie Alexander officiating. Burial will follow in the Pilot Knob Cemetery with full military honors.
Visitation will be after 11:00 AM Saturday, at the funeral home
Serving as pallbearers are: Jeff Abrams, Alan Perkins, Terry Vice, Jimmy Rogers, Tommy Cope, and Brian Isaacs.
Harold's honorary pallbearers will be: Tim Marcum, Ralph Renfro, Warren Bruner, Randy Alexander, and Russell Isaacs.
Harold will be remembered for his dedication to family, his service to his country, his humor, his love of fishing and his infamous story telling. There wasn't a wild thing growing he didn't try to cook and stranger he didn't want to meet. He enjoyed visiting with his buddies for breakfast at McDonalds, lunch at Better Burger and stopping in to see anyone outside going down Red Lick. There wasn't a day that went by that he didn't reminisce about the old days with someone anyone.
