Ted Loth of Morris Plains, NJ, Passes Away Peacefully at Home
Ted Loth, a beloved father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully at his home on February 25, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. His larger-than-life presence was matched by his toughness of spirit, tempered with generosity, kindness, and a playful sense of humor. Ted embodied both grit and grace, and his stories-often delivered with laughter-were a testament to his vibrant character. Whether recalling his time at Millburn High School with the Class of 1958, his college days at Furman University, or reminiscing about his best friend and football teammate, Bob Mondo, Ted always had a tale to tell.
After excelling as a three-sport athlete at Millburn High School, Ted attended Furman University on a full football scholarship, where he played Division 1 football. Upon graduation, he pursued a career in teaching and coaching, positively impacting the lives of many before returning to New Jersey.
Ted was a dedicated family man, with his grandchildren at the center of his world. His favorite moments were spent attending their activities and supporting them in every way. He was a fixture on the sports fields, an after-school snack maker, chauffeur, handyman, and project manager-capable of creating elaborate school projects, like a replica of the Colosseum, using only household supplies, often the night before they were due.
Ted loved playing golf and enjoying good food with those he held dear. He found joy in watching sports, reading four newspapers daily, and solving crossword puzzles. A fierce debater, he was always ready to argue any point with passion, and a formidable competitor in board games.
Ted's love for his grandchildren extended to his grand-dogs-Lola, Stella, Paisley, Scooby, Coco and his beloved chocolate lab, Fonzi-who adored him.
He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Ted was the beloved husband of 51 years to the late Clara. He was the loving father of Ted Loth and his wife Suzy and Anne Trautman and her partner John Lanzone. He is also survived by his cherished grandchildren, Andrew Loth, Matthew Loth, Abigail Loth and Will Trautman. He is predeceased by his parents, Harold and Josephine (D'Andrea) Loth and his sister Pat Casciano.
