Harold D. 'Sam' Priess, 89, of Altamont died at 11:40 a.m., Monday, July 29, 2024 at his home.
A funeral mass will be at 1:00 p.m., Friday, August 2, 2024 at St. Clare Catholic Church, Altamont with Rev. Ron Lorilla officiating. Burial will follow at St. Clare Cemetery with military rites by Grobengieser-Fischer American Legion Post #512, Gieseking-Schwerdtfeger VFW Post #7676 and the US Navy Military Honors Detachment. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until 12:45 p.m. at Gieseking Funeral Home, Altamont prior to the funeral. Memorials may be made to the donor's choice.
Harold D. Priess was born on Sunday, October 7, 1934 in Peoria, IL to Walter Edward and Ella (Schroeder) Priess. He served in U.S. Navy from 1953-1957. He married Margaret K. 'Maggie' Fallon on August 31, 1957 at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, Astoria, N.Y. Together they raised their family and celebrated over 62 years of marriage. She preceded him in death on December 24, 2019. Prior to his retirement he had been a refrigeration engineer, farmed and had worked for the Effingham Equity.
He is survived by: his son Edward Priess of Altamont; daughters, Jody Priess, and Lynn Quick, both of Altamont; 4 grandchildren, Jesse (Shanna) Purgerson, Dylan Osteen, Brittany Osteen, and Lance Priess; 3 great grandchildren, Callyn Dye and Dalilah and Abel Purgerson.
Harold was preceded in death by: his wife, Maggie Priess; parents, parents-in-law, Gerald and Mary Fallon; son-in-law, Randy Quick; sisters-in-law, Barbara Fallon and Mary Ellen Ralph and nephew, Robert Ralph.
