Harold Rainwater Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Ruegg Funeral Home - Piedmont on Feb. 12, 2026.
Harold Floyd Rainwater, 92, of Piedmont, MO, passed away Monday, February 9, 2026, at John J. Pershing Veterans' Hospital, Poplar Bluff, MO. He was born in Silva, MO, November 15, 1933, to Floyd and Jewel Marie (Davis) Rainwater.

Harold was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend, whose impact on his family and community will be cherished forever. A man of deep faith and strong character, he was a longtime member of New Hope Baptist Church and served as a Deacon for many years. Harold served in the United States Army, which he fulfilled for two years.

Harold married the love of his life, Janet Boatwright, on May 28, 1955, and together they created a lifetime of beautiful memories, raising four children and building a life full of love and laughter.

Harold was a tireless worker, spending years in various occupations that shaped his legacy. He worked for the Brown Shoe Company as a sole cutter, later contributing to the City of Piedmont by helping install natural gas lines. Harold's hands were also busy in construction, including backhoe and dozer work, and he worked for years on the I-55 Interstate. As a self-employed residential construction worker, Harold's dedication to his family knew no bounds, always putting in long hours to provide for those he loved. In his later years, Harold enjoyed stump grinding, a job he loved for its outdoor work and connection with nature.

In his free time, Harold found peace and joy in the outdoors, especially fishing at Wappapello and Clearwater Lakes. He was a man who appreciated simple pleasures and valued the time spent with loved ones.

In addition to his parents, Harold is preceded in death by his sister, Kathern Rhodes.

Harold is survived by his loving wife of seventy years; children: Scott Rainwater and wife Vicki of Piedmont, Sonia Tibbetts and husband Steve of Southport, ME, Lynn Rayfield of Piedmont, and Karen Latham and husband Dow of Omaha, NE; grandchildren: Josh Rainwater, Sarah Montgomery and husband Adam, Ryan Rainwater and wife Rachael, Trevor Swope and wife Laura, Shannon Swope, Jessica Sanchez and husband Mike, Collin Summers, Cooper Latham, MacKenzie Latham, Tyler Tibbetts, Dalton Tibbetts and wife Ashlea; thirteen great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren; his brother, Carroll Rainwater and wife Sue of Greenville; nieces, nephews, and a host of friends who will forever miss his kind and gentle spirit.

Harold's warmth, wisdom, and unwavering love for his family will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. His legacy of hard work, faith, and love will be remembered for generations to come.

Visitation will be held at 12:30 pm, Saturday, February 14, 2026, at Ruegg Funeral Home, Piedmont Chapel. Funeral service will follow at 2:30 pm, also in the Piedmont Chapel. Burial will be in Masonic Cemetery, Piedmont. Online condolences can be made at www.rueggfuneralhomes.com
