Harold "Fly" Joseph Richard, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on March 6, 2025, at the age of 83. Born on December 7, 1941, in Lake Arthur, LA, Harold spent his entire life surrounded by the beauty and camaraderie of his hometown.
Harold was known for his warm heart and willingness to lend a hand to those in need. He made a meaningful impact as a lineman in the electric industry, where he dedicated 38 years to serving the communities. He served his town of Lake Arthur as a volunteer firefighter for over 38 years. He also served his country honorably in the United States Army. His life was not just about work; he found immense joy in hunting, fishing, boating, and working on woodwork projects, often sharing these passions with his family and friends.
He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Shirley Richard; children Chad (Monica) Richard and Aretha (Cecil) Manuel;step children, Jeff Dewitt and Connie Dewitt; brother Lance Richard; and a vibrant group of grandchildren: Taylor Manuel Tucker, Paul Manuel, Alli Manuel, Sarah Richard Guillory, Marshall Richard, Ashley Richard, and Kristina Richard Phillips; step grandchildren, Seth Richard and Kelly Bouley; 16 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandson. Each of them carries a piece of Harold's spirit in their hearts.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate Harold's life. A public viewing will take place at Miguez Funeral Home in Lake Arthur on March 10, 2025, starting at 3:00 PM, followed by a rosary service at 6:00 PM. Visitation will continue March 11, 2025, from 8:00 AM until the time to process to the church. A Mass in his honor will be held at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church on March 11, 2025, at 10:00 AM. Afterward, Harold will be laid to rest at Southwest Louisiana Veterans Cemetery in Jennings.
Harold was preceded in death by his parents Raymond and Dorothy Belair Richard, and his brother, Alvin Richard.
