Harold Sanner Obituary

Harold R. Sanner, 103, of Damascus, MD, formerly of Penn Township, died on Friday, Jan. 30, 2026. He was born on June 26, 1922, in Uniontown, a son of Alex W. and Margaret E. (Broderick) Sanner. Harold is survived by his three children, Timothy G. Sanner (Barbara), Betsy L. Krotz (Thomas), and Amy S. Buras (James), with whom he resided in Damascus, MD; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Harold was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 64 years, Helen B. (Grove) Sanner; brothers, John F., William R., Wilbert W., and Clyde J. Sanner; and sisters, Violet M. Morgan and Margaret E. Manning. After graduating from North Union High School, he drove a bus for the King Bus Company in Hopwood. He enlisted in the U.S. Army, and following basic training in Fort Bragg, NC, was stationed at Fort Carson in Colorado Springs, where he was part of the 38th Regimental Combat Team. During this time he completed his mountain training, where he developed his lifelong love of skiing. After being honorably discharged as a corporal, he married his wife, Helen, and completed an apprenticeship as a bricklayer. He was a member of the International Union of Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers for 75 years. When he retired from bricklaying at 85, he continued to use his skills to serve the community through Habitat for Humanity. He also enjoyed serving on the Thursday Morning Work Crew at Community Church. He loved social gatherings, was quick to make friends, and always had an amazing story to tell from his long, blessed life. Friends will be received from 10 a.m. until the time of service at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 7, 2026, at LINDSAY-JOBE FUNERAL HOME INC., 3343 Route 130, PO Box 465, Harrison City. Entombment with military honors will follow at Penn Lincoln Memorial Park, North Huntingdon.
