Harold K. Schultz

Harold K. Schultz, age 94, of Quincy, passed away at home, surrounded by his loving family on Thursday, August 21, 2025. He was born in Three Rivers to Carl and Elva (Krull) Schultz on June 21, 1931. Harold married Jane Bandholtz on November 7, 1953 and she survives.

Harold spent his early life at his family home of Three Rivers where he raised rabbits, chickens, and sold eggs to supplement his family. In his teens he trapped beaver, mink, and raccoons that he sold and used to buy a new Studebaker truck. After graduating in 1949, he drove that truck to Alaska where he homesteaded and worked on a stern wheeler riverboat on the Yukon River. In 1952 he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. Harold was an Eagle Scout, a Scout Leader and a supporter of the scouting program. After moving to Quincy in 1954 he purchased the Quincy Shoppers Guide, then in 1959 bought the Coldwater Shoppers guide combining the two to make the Guide successful for nearly 60 years.

Harold was involved in the Quincy Tip Up Festival for several years. Over the years he donated Christmas trees, pumpkins, and mums and gave much support to the village of Quincy and also QSBA. He also had a love for politics and ran for State Legislation in 1974. Harold served as President of the Quincy School Board for 25 years. He loved restoring old houses and the Chicago Pike Inn was a testament to that.

Harold also had a love of gardening, preserving and canning, hunting, fishing, Tibbits live theatre, the Quincy Rotary Club and sports of all kinds. He enjoyed spending summers at his cottage on Long Lake and winters in Florida watching baseball spring training. Harold was very generous to the community and anyone who needed a helping hand. He adored spending time with his grandchildren and taking them on family trips and never missing their sporting events.

In addition to his wife, Jane, Harold is survived by three daughters, Susan (Vaughn) Smith, Johanna Willard and Rebecca Mitchell; seven grandchildren, Michael Schmidt, Kevin (Lori) Schmidt, James (Karissa) Schmidt, Steven Smith, William (Ashleigh Marriott) Willard II, Sarah (Cody) Gruner, and Katherine (Patrick) Watkins; 12 great grandchildren, Andrew, Vincent, Alexander, Madeline, Seth, Rowan, Quinn, Liam, Elle, Wolfgang, Zachary and Sophia; niece, Linda Carrera; nephew, Robert (Erica) Hallock; and several great nieces.

Harold was preceded in death by his father, mother, father and mother-in-law, sister and brother-in-law, Barbara (Phil) Hallock, son-in-law, John Mitchell, and great-grandson, Benjamin Watkins.

A Graveside service for Harold will be held on Thursday, September 4, 2025. Visitation will be held at 11:00 AM with service to follow at 11:30 AM at Lakeview Cemetery in Quincy. A light lunch will be served following the service at Quincy American Legion from 12 Noon to 2:00 PM. Arrangements are entrusted to the Eagle Funeral Home-George White Chapel in Quincy.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Branch County Food Pantry, the Humane Society of Branch County, or the Branch District Library-Quincy Branch.
