Harold Toepfer Jr.

1935 - 2026

Harold Christian Toepfer, Jr., 90, of Davenport, Iowa, passed away Sunday, February 8, 2026, at the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf, Iowa.

A visitation will be held from 12 to 1 p.m. on Tuesday, February 17, 2026, at DeRoo Funeral Home, 1811 15th Street Place, Moline, followed by Funeral Service at 1 p.m. Burial will be in Rock Island National Cemetery at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the ACLU.

Harold was born October 18, 1935, in Pleasant Valley Township, Jo Daviess County, Ill., the son of Harold and Dorothy (Nielson) Toepfer, Sr. An Army veteran, he was stationed in Germany in 1955 and 1956. He was previously married to Donna Brubaker on August 15, 1958.

Harold started at Clinton Corn Processing in 1964, where he became a machinist, completing his apprenticeship in 1971. After the strike, Harold went to the Rock Island Arsenal, from which he retired in 1997. He enjoyed watching NASCAR-even traveling to Indianapolis and Talladega-and local stock car racing.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his former wife, Donna (Brubaker) Toepfer Green, in 2017; and his sister, Darlene (Toepfer) Morhardt Koontz, in 2020.

Survivors include his children: James Toepfer, Moline, Ill., Laurie Toepfer, Davenport, Iowa; grandson, David Toepfer of Eldridge, Iowa; and great-grandson, Mason Toepfer, of Camanche, Iowa.
