Harold Bell Wood Jr.

Harold was born to Harold Sr. and Myrtle Howell Wood on May
27, 1933 in Stephenville, TX. He shared his mother's May 27 th
birthday. He passed away peacefully on September 8, 2025 at the age of 92.

Harold was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-
grandfather and faithful servant of God.

He grew up in Stephenville surrounded by extended family and
graduated from Stephenville High School in 1951 and North Texas
State University in 1955 with a degree in chemistry.

He married his high school sweetheart, Rosemary Spindor on
August 8, 1953 and celebrated their 72nd anniversary this year.

After graduation, Harold accepted a job with the U.S. Customs
Department in New Orleans, LA. After a short time in New
Orleans, Harold received an offer to join Dow Chemical Company
in Freeport as a chemist and began his career in 1956. He retired at
age 57 as Purchasing Department Manager, completing 34 years
with Dow. Following his retirement, he began the second act of his
life which focused on family, travel, woodworking, service and
faith.

Harold loved to travel, and his family enjoyed many camping trips
around the country and even into Canada. When Harold retired, he
bought a 5th -wheel camper and later upgraded to an RV. Harold
and Rosemary visited all the state capitals and most of the national
parks. They also traveled internationally, visiting six of the seven
continents.

Woodworking, service and faith intersected in Harold's life after
retirement. He began woodworking in the 1970s when he inherited
a workshop from an uncle. His interest and abilities grew to the
point that he became skilled at cabinet making, furniture making, and carpentry. He loved making gifts for friends and family but
found his true ministry working with Texans on Mission (formerly
Texas Baptist Men) and Habitat for Humanity.

As a long-time Texas Baptist church member, Harold was
knowledgeable about the ministry of Texas Baptist Men. Harold
was also a skilled woodworker and in 1992 those interests came
together. Harold joined the TBM cabinet-making team and over the
next 25 years worked on projects at churches, seminaries, and
encampments across Texas and the world.

Harold's cabinet-making skills also benefited his local community
in Brazoria County where he served at Habitat for Humanity
working on 104 home builds.

His faith in Christ led him to lifelong service at First Baptist
Freeport and First Baptist Lake Jackson where he served as a
deacon and several church committees. He and Rosemary often
served together teaching in preschool and elementary age Sunday
School classes, ministering to widows, participating in missions
and their last post as Director and Secretary of the Senior Adult 5
class for 20 years.

Harold had a quick wit, a ready smile and a friend to all. His
laughter was infectious, and he enjoyed a wide circle of friends
including his ROMEO (Retired Old Men Eating Out) group who
gathered for Thursday lunch at Brian's BBQ in Clute.

Harold is survived by his wife, Rosemary Spindor Wood, his three
children Jerilynn Armstrong and husband Don Armstrong, Steven
Wood and his wife Mary Jo Wood, Larry Wood, sister Sue Kelley,
grandchildren Kevin Wood and his fiancée Kaelyn Motzel, Kyle
Armstrong and his wife Tabitha, Marion Armstrong and her
husband Brent, David Wood and his wife Sarah, Adam Kalinec
and his wife Jennifer, and Keith Kalinec and his fiancée Anna
Arpon. He had 10 great grandchildren Kelsie Kalinec, Eleanor, Lottie, and Darby Armstrong, Elowyn, Gwyneth, Asher and Titus
Wood, and Sydney and Elizabeth Wood.

Services will be held Saturday, September 13 at Lacy Funeral
Home in Stephenville, Texas. with Brad Dawson officiating.
Visitation will be held at 1 p.m. with the service following at
2 p.m.

There will also be a Memorial Service at First Baptist Church,
Lake Jackson, Texas on Saturday, September 27 with Brad Dawson
officiating. The service will be at 1 p.m. followed by a reception in
the church parlor.
