Harriet Gilbert Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Sunset Funeral & Cremation Services and Cemetery - North Olmsted on Dec. 4, 2024.
Harriet Jean Gilbert, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend, passed away peacefully on November 28, 2024, at the age of 74. She was born on August 13, 1950, in Inkster, Michigan, the daughter of James Britt Walker and Hattie Mae Walker (Boyd). Harriet lived a life filled with love, laughter, and an unwavering commitment to her family and friends.
Harriet was a proud graduate of Cass Tech High School in Detroit, class of 1968. She pursued her passion for technology at Cuyahoga Community College, where she earned an Associate's Degree in Computer Programming in 1975. Her career began at NASA, where she dedicated over three decades of her life as a Computer Programmer and Analyst, contributing to projects that sparked her love for exploration and innovation. In her personal life, Harriet was known for her honesty, empathy, and deep commitment to her family. She was married to Jerry Gilbert from 1973 until their divorce in 1991. In 1998, she found love again with Shawn Trummer, and they shared a beautiful bond until her passing.
She is survived by her loving husband, Shawn Trummer; her sons, James Anthony Walker and Artimus Gilbert; her daughters-in-law, Kelly Skeabeck-Gilbert and Carla Ferguson; and her cherished grandchildren, Vivian Gilbert, Audrey Gilbert, and Isaiah Gilbert. She is also survived by her nephews, Kevin Carter and Richard Carter. Harriet was preceded in death by her sister, Mary Diane Carter, and her brother-in-law, Simon Carter.
Her absence leaves a profound void in the hearts of all who knew her. An active member of Ebenezer A.M.E. Methodist Church in Detroit, Harriet was deeply involved in her community. She was passionate about various hobbies, including bowling, gambling, camping, reading, sports, and jewelry making. Her favorite scripture, John 3:16, resonated with her belief in love and eternal life: "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life."
Harriet's kindness and warmth were felt by everyone around her. She was known for her loving nature and her ability to bring people together. In her final years, she appreciated the support of the staff at Seidman Cancer Center Infusion Suite and her friends from The Yorktown Lanes Tuesday Night Mixers League, who brought joy and companion ship to her life.
A wake will be held a Sunset Memorial Chapel, 6245 Columbia Road, North Olmsted, Ohio 44070, on Thursday, December 12, 2024, from 4 PM to 8 PM. Her funeral service will take place the following day, December 13, 2024, at 2 PM at the chapel.
Harriet Jean Gilbert will be deeply missed, but her legacy of love and compassion will live on in the hearts of her family and friends. She touched the lives of so many and will forever be remembered for her strength, wisdom, and unwavering love.
