Harriet Ethel McGuire was born January 10, 1926 in Tonopah, Nevada to Charles and Esther Anderson. The family moved to Reno where Hatty remained until marrying her high-school sweetheart, Raymond Adam McGuire on VJ Day, September 2, 1945. They had two children, Sandra (David Sutton) and Michael (Mickey) (Vonne Zdenek). She passed away peacefully with her son by her side September 5, 2024 in Loveland, Colorado. She was predeceased by her parents, her two brothers Rollie and Jim, husband Raymond and daughter Sandra. Surviving are her favorite cousin Diane Buckman, Mickey, David, Vonne, and grandchildren Christopher McGuire (Megan), Jeni Biskie (Joel), William Sutton (Vanessa), Andrew Sutton (Kat), Dana Blair (Tom), and Natalie Zdenek, as well as 12 great grandchildren. Also surviving are sister in law Judy DeVore and nieces Debbie Baker (Mike), Sheryl Laguna (Steve), Laurel Sweigart (Dean), Debra McGuire (John Guill) and Sue McGuire (Larry Chiaroni), and nephew Patrick McGuire.
Hatty led an eventful life, living in several different states and communities. She moved more than 30 times following Ray around to different jobs in the public education sector. She worked off and on as a secretary for different firms as moves allowed. She was also active in the League of Women Voters and served as HOA President at Heather Ridge in Aurora. Following Ray's retirement, they traveled extensively, visiting family often, taking cruises, and touring in several foreign countries. Hatty enjoyed reading, playing bridge, was an avid golfer and skier (both on snow and water) and could cast a fly rod beautifully. She was an active member of Covenant Presbyterian DTC and the Tamarac Optimist Club where she had many friends. She was kind and gentle and often displayed a wicked sense of humor. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt and those around her appreciated her presence.
Hatty bequeathed her remains to the Anatomical Board of the State of Colorado. She always valued education and her remains will be used to help scientific research and biomedical training.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Covenant Presbyterian Church https://covenantdtc.org/give or the Tamarac Optimist Club (mail checks to: Nancy DeNiro, Treasurer, 14091 E. Marina Dr. #311, Aurora, CO 80014).
A celebration of life will be held October 26 11:00 am at Covenant Presbyterian DTC located at 5400 S. Yosemite St. Greenwood Village, CO 80111.
