Harriet Jaffray Pratt
Harriet J. Pratt, 99, of Minneapolis, died on Friday, December 26, 2025. She was born on November 24, 1926, and attended Northrop Collegiate (now Blake) School, where she received the Trustees' Award in 1944. She went on to study at Vassar College, where she graduated Phi Beta Kappa in 1947. She then earned her master's degree in child psychology from the University of Minnesota. In 1949, she met Walter Eggleston Pratt at the dentist's office, when they were double-booked for the same appointment. They married in 1951, and were together for 70 years.
Early in her career, Harriet worked as a child psychologist, and returned to the profession when her children were in school. She loved helping families at the Washburn Child Guidance Center (now Washburn Center for Children). Harriet also volunteered as a guardian ad litem, a docent at the Walker Art Center and taught English as a second language to adult immigrants. She will be remembered for her wit, her interest in people and cultures, her robust vocabulary and her deep love for her family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Clive Palmer and Harriet Turnham Jaffray; brothers, Clive and James; sister, Mary Savage, and son-in-law, Jack Dilday. She is survived by her three daughters, Susan Dilday, Molly (William) Nagle and Jennifer (Mike) Stattelman; son, Stephen Pratt (Sarai Hoffman); eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
The Pratt family would like to thank the Folkestone Gables Care Center of Wayzata and Optage Hospice for their exceptional end-of-life care, and the staff of Halo Hospice and Home Care for their support over the past twelve years. A private family memorial will be held. Gifts in her memory may be sent to the Minneapolis Institute of Art (new.artsmia.org or phone 888-642-2787), or Alight (Alight Donor Service Center, P.O. Box 1002, Minneapolis, MN 55480). To send flowers to the family or plant a tree in memory of Harriet, please visit our floral store.
