Harris Dale Kicklighter, a cherished member of the Glennville community, passed away on July 26, 2025, at the Community Hospice Inpatient Center in Vidalia, Georgia. He was born on October 19, 1948, in Reidsville, Georgia to Harris and Nancy Hatten Kicklighter. Growing up, he spent formative summers laboring on his father's farm and working with the Big Green Giant, an experience that instilled in him value and perseverance and a strong work ethic for every aspect of his life.

A distinguished alumni of Glennville High School, Dale graduated in 1966, where he not only excelled academically but also made his mark on the basketball court, setting a record for the most points scored in a game. His passion for the sport continued as he attended Georgia Military College for two years and then transferred to the University of Georgia. He completed his studies in 1972 with a bachelor's degree from the University of Georgia.

Dale's professional journey was characterized by a profound sense of service and community engagement. He retired from civil service at DOL at Fort Stewart after a commendable career. His versatility and dedication sent him to work at Brent Walker Ford and NeSmith Chevrolet. His impact on the educational landscape was particularly notable during his tenure as a substitute teacher, recognized statewide as the Substitute Teacher of the Year for Georgia. Additionally, his service on the Tattnall County Board of Education further exemplified his commitment to fostering and promoting educational opportunities.

Beyond his accomplishments in service and education, Dale celebrated his zest for life and his deep-rooted passions. He was an avid supporter and fan of the University of Georgia, holding season tickets for UGA football for many years and relishing the thrilling experience of attending the 1980 National Championship Sugar Bowl. His athletic spirit extended beyond the basketball court; he played men’s softball with local teams, including Glennville Seafood and Davis Land Surveyors, showcasing his competitive nature as a pitcher. The community also fondly remembers him for his involvement in the Glennville First Baptist Church softball league.

Dale's love for life extended into his personal interests, where he reveled in grilling, fishing, and vacationing in Panama City. He found joy in raising cows and wholeheartedly participated in 4-H and Agricultural events, reflecting his profound connection to the land and those who work it.

His personality was marked by caring and generosity—a true embodiment of what it means to give back. He passionately dedicated his time as a volunteer coach at the Glennville Recreation Department, where he transformed countless lives through his mentorship, earning the admiration of students and parents alike.

Dale's life was a testament to dedication, compassion, and an unwavering commitment to nurturing the growth of youth. Dale leaves behind a legacy etched not only in the hearts of those he taught and mentored but also in the community that cherished his presence.
