Harry J. Barcome

1927 - 2023

Harry J. Barcome, 96, of South Windsor, passed peacefully at home on May 9, 2023. He was born in Keene, New Hampshire, January 1, 1927, son of the late Oliver and Alice (Carpenter) Barcome. Harry was a sergeant in the United States Army, WWII, serving in post stateside as well as in Japan. He was a graduate of DeForest Institute in Chicago, Ill., where he earned a degree in Communications. Harry put those skills to great use during his days at radio stations WRST in Chicago and WWNH in Rochester, New Hampshire. He relocated to Hartford, CT in the 50's and later to South Windsor in 1978, where he remained. Harry worked for Chandler Evans in West Hartford and Bogle Corp. in Windsor. He also worked for the CT Department of Corrections, retiring in 1995. Harry enjoyed music, specifically that of the 40's and 50's, books by W.E.B. Griffin, and all crossword puzzles. Harry is survived by his best friend and life partner of 54 years Robert L. Barton, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by five brothers and four sisters: Lewis Barcome, Sidney Barcome, Gale Barcome, Donald Barcome, Frederick Barcome, Gladys Dufault, Mary Barcome, Charlotte Mackinnon and Doris Zani. Visitation will be held Monday, May 15, 2023, 9am-10am at the Samsel & Carmon Funeral Home, 419 Buckland Rd., South Windsor. A Mass of Christian burial will follow immediately at 10:30 am, at St. Margaret Mary Church, 80 Hayes Rd, South Windsor. Burial will follow at Center Cemetery, 944 Main St., South Windsor.
