Barbara Russell Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Ladd-Turkington & Carmon Funeral Home on Mar. 1, 2026.
Barbara (Violette) Russell, 92, of Ellington, and Port St. Lucie, Florida, beloved wife of 52 years of the late Arthur L. Russell, peacefully passed away, surrounded by her family, on Thursday, February 26, 2026. Barbara was born on January 20, 1934, in Hartford, one of seven loving children of the late Louis and Jessie Violette. She was raised in Hartford and was a graduate of Bulkeley High School.

Along with raising her family, Barbara had been employed as a secretary for over 15 years with the law offices of Attorney William Reveley. A position she truly loved and enjoyed and made many lasting friendships. She was a member of the Port St. Lucie Elks Lodge where she was active in many community events. She was known for embroidering beautiful quilts which were given to every one of her cherished grandchildren as well as other family members and friends. She painted ceramics, and enjoyed playing cards, Bingo, doing puzzles and going ten-pin bowling. With all these hobbies, her true love was her family. She was the Matriarch of the Russell family and will be truly missed and forever loved.

Barbara leaves to cherish her memory, her five children: son, Robert Russell of Vernon, daughter, Denise Karagianis and her spouse, Steven of South Windsor, daughter, Deborah Kocher and her partner, Chris Dougan of Coventry, son, Thomas Russell and his spouse, Jessica of South Windsor and son, William Russell and his partner, Jennifer Vamvilis of Ellington. Barbara also leaves her six special grandchildren: Adam Russell and his spouse, Alicia, Leah-Jane Russell and her fiancé, Chris Lynch, Amanda Karagianis, Jason Rahn, Justin Russell, Troy Russell, and her three great-grandchildren: Rachel Rahn, Rylan Rogers and Colten Rahn and her great-great granddaughter, Alayna King. Other survivors include her sister, Patricia Weiman of Newington, her two brothers, Charles Violette and his spouse, Debbie of Pennsylvania and Mark Violette of Newington and numerous nieces, nephews, their families and many wonderful friends and neighbors. In addition to her husband and parents, Barbara was predeceased by her grandson, Jeremy Daniel Russell, and her three siblings: Louis Violette, Frederick Violette, and Laura (Violette) Krampitz.

The family would like to thank the incredible caregivers who gave her loving attention and endless kindness in her final years of life including Edina, Gifty, Sylvia, Dinah and a special thank you to Bree Bigelow for their "Barbie/Bree Bond" that will last forever.

All are welcome to join her family for calling hours on Tuesday, March 3, 2026, from 4-7 pm at the Ladd-Turkington & Carmon Funeral Home, 551 Talcottville Road (Rt.-83) in Vernon.
