Harry Bortz, Sr. 93, of Reading, died April 4, 2025, in Reading Hospital, West Reading.
He was the beloved husband of Carmela Bortz, who passed away on October 4, 2011. They were a loving couple for over 60 years and Harry mourned the loss of the love of his life every day.
Born in Reading, he was a son of the late William and Mary Bortz.
He was a member of Jehovah's Witnesses South Congregation, Reading.
Since 1954, he dedicated his life as one of Jehovah's Witnesses, joyfully sharing in preaching about the good news of God's Kingdom and serving as an elder in the congregation. His love for Jehovah and his son, Jesus Christ, and faith in Jehovah's purpose to restore the Earth to a Paradise and reunite us with loved ones lost in death was his Bible based hope. He and Carmela raised their four children to also have that relationship with Jehovah and hope for the near future.
He is survived by three children: Harry, Jr., husband of Robin Bortz, Reading; Jody, widower of Terry Bortz, Reading; and Ellen, wife of Theodore Titlow, Womelsdorf. He was also predeceased by his son David, husband of Lazara Bortz, Reading. Also surviving him are nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
A memorial talk will be given Saturday, April 19 at 4 p.m. in South Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 1101 W. Wyomissing Blvd., Reading, PA 19609. Doors will be open at 3 p.m. for family and friends. Burial will be private at the Gethsemane Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be offered to jw.org.
Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, Inc, is entrusted with arrangements. Condolences may be expressed at kuhnfuneralhomes.com.
