Harry A. Browning, Jr.
October 28, 1940 - June 6, 2024
Waterville, WA
Harry A. Browning, Jr., 83, passed away June 6, 2024, in Waterville, WA. He was born in Berkeley, CA, on October 28, 1940, to his parents, Harry and Esther Browning. The family moved to Grass Valley, CA, where he graduated from Nevada Union High School in 1958. Following high school, he served in the National Guard. Harry began his long banking career at the Mother Lode Bank in Grass Valley, and Bank of California in San Francisco, CA. In 1979, he moved his family to Waterville, WA, to be the cashier of Mid State Bank until his retirement.
Harry married Phyllis Lollich on June 19, 1965, at the First Methodist Church in Grass Valley. They were married for 59 years. The delight of Harry's life was his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Nothing made his eyes light up more than to watch their antics. He faithfully and ferociously followed all their activities.
Harry loved to play golf as often as possible. For 20+ years he played pinochle with friends on his lunch hour, which after retirement, became weekly games that expanded to several hours.
Harry and Phyllis discovered the joy of travel and took many road trips, train trips across the U.S. and trips abroad. This spring, he traveled to Amsterdam, Croatia and Slovenia with his special group of friends, known on the tour as "Harry and his hareem."
Harry volunteered for the Waterville Lions Club serving Pronto Pups at the fair, and cooking burgers at the ski hill. He also served on the Board of the Douglas County Hospital District.
Harry is survived by his wife, Phyllis; children: Jim, Derek and Stacey; grandchildren: Katelyn Browning, Bryanna Browning, Kelsey (Tyler) Tollackson, Kayden Browning; adopted granddaughters: Taylor Mires and Brooke Husted; and great-granddaughters: Addilyn Browning-Webster and Timber Tollackson; sister, Shirley Halverstadt; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held Saturday, July 27, 2024, at 11:00 a.m., at the Waterville Federated Church, 220 W. Ash St., Waterville, WA, followed by a luncheon.
