Harry Ewing Obituary

Harry Ewing

1936 ~ 2025

Salt Lake City, UT-Harry Ewing, 89, passed away peacefully on August 3, 2025 in Salt Lake City, Utah. He was born on January 10, 1936 to Harry Joseph Ewing and Myrtle White Ewing and was the younger brother to sisters Margaret and Betty. He lived in Salt Lake City his entire life, over 50 of those years in the same home in Sugarhouse. Harry leaves behind a legacy of dedication, kindness, and quiet strength.

Harry built a distinguished career as a draftsman, ultimately working in the Salt Lake City Engineering Department. His meticulous work and commitment to excellence earned him respect among colleagues and contributed meaningfully to the development of his beloved hometown. He retired from the city's engineering department with pride in all he had accomplished.

Outside of his professional life, Harry was a man deeply connected to nature and the simple joys it offered. He was an avid runner into his 80's, running with the Salt Lake Running Club and Larchmont Track Club. Harry accumulated boxes of medals and trophies, attesting to his competitive nature and love of the sport. He loved feeding birds and observing their habits-small moments that brought him great joy. His fascination with horses and love of dogs reflected his deep appreciation for animals and their companionship.

Harry's generous spirit was well known among those fortunate enough to know him. Always eager to lend a helping hand, he supported family, friends, and neighbors alike with quiet reliability. Whether it was sharing a cup of coffee or engaging in heartfelt conversation filled with stories and his signature sayings, Harry had a way of making people feel seen and heard.

He is survived by his five children: Rebecca Millican (Joel), Jeff Ewing (Elizabeth), Seth Ewing (Heather), Ian Bobbermin (Stephanie), Alexis Taylor (Jeremy), eleven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. His presence will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Sept 5th, 2025 from 7-9 PM at Cactus and Tropicals located at 2735 S 2000 E Salt Lake City, UT 84109

After over 20 years of not seeing Harry my old running buddy I bump into him in Millcreek, Utah at Cottonwood Creek and we non-stop talked old racing times while SITTING at the dinner table. I´ll miss him and his great stories. Brent

Barry loved working with Harry. We also love having him to Sunday dinner. Barry helped Harry with home project's and enjoyed the morning coffee with him. Even during Covid they would meet and set on the tailgate of Barry's truck and have coffee and talk. Harry always asks how I was doing; he was a very thoughtful man, and we will miss him. Love you, Harry. Barry and Sandy Walsh

Harry and I were friends for over 40 years. We met while watching my wife and his future wife who were running an all female race at Sugar House Park. Following that, we became socially friendly, ran together, and traveled together to Moab and St. George for races. More recently,we met for Saturday morning coffee with a group of friends.

I ran with Harry many years with the Larchmont Track Club.
Harry ALWAYS had a smile when he saw me.
He was genuine and friendly to all.
God bless you Harry as you and your buddies run the next 10K in the sky.

Harry was astonishing as an athlete, even without age being considered. Also gentle as described in the obituary, and a kind soul all the way around, I will miss him.

This is indeed sad news. Harry was one of the nicest people I have ever known. He was a much faster runner than I, but he was never one to embellish his talent. Harry always seemed to be in good spirts and genuinely happy to reunite after a long absence. He will be greatly missed but grief is the price we pay for friendship--gone but not forgotten. Sorry that I can't be at his Celebration of Life, but I know that all those that can will only have fond memories of him.
