Harry FUHS Obituary

April 20, 1931 - January 29, 2025

Harry Edward Fuhs, a dearly loved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend passed away peacefully at the age of 93 on January 29, 2025 - just two days before the 15th anniversary of the death of his beloved wife of 54 years, Donna M. Fuhs. Harry was born April 20, 1931, in Townsend, Montana. He grew up in Montana but was a longtime resident of Spokane.

Following graduation in 1949 as valedictorian of Broadwater County High School in Townsend, Harry attended the University of Montana, where he was a member of Sigma Nu fraternity, was an Air Force cadet in the ROTC, and graduated with a bachelor's degree in accounting in 1953. Harry met many lifelong friends at U of M, including his future wife, Donna. Following graduation and earning his CPA license, Harry was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant at Fairchild AFB in Spokane in 1954.

In July 1955, Harry and Donna were married in Colstrip, Montana, and lived in Spokane thereafter. After completing his service commitment in 1956, Harry began his professional career as a CPA. He worked many years in the audit practice of Ernst & Ernst, then accepted a position with The Crescent department store - ascending to CFO and ultimately retiring after a long career. Harry was active in his church and in philanthropic organizations, including the Kiwanis and Lions Clubs of Spokane, Volunteers of America, and advisory boards for various nonprofits.

After retirement, Harry and Donna enjoyed golfing and socializing at Manito Golf & Country Club. They also traveled extensively in their motor home, often caravanning with Donna's sister and brother-in-law, while always making time to golf and visit friends and family along the way.

Harry was a very kind and generous man and deeply loved his sons and their families. He cherished spending time with his 5 grandkids and had an impact on each of their lives. He was delighted to be a great grandpa as well! Harry spent his last 8 years at Rockwood Retirement Community, where he enjoyed the activities and camaraderie with many fellow residents.

Harry is survived by his two sons, Bryan (Valerie) and Brad (Audrey); five grandchildren, Molly (Scott) Drenkard, Morgan Fuhs Myrick, Carson Fuhs, Amy (Joe) Unwin, and Kevin Fuhs; and four great-grandchildren, Hailey Drenkard, William Drenkard, Kate Unwin, and James Unwin.

A Celebration of Life will be held on April 5th at 2 p.m. in the Event Center at Rockwood South Hill, 2903 East 25th Avenue, in Spokane, WA.

In lieu of flowers, please send contributions to the Rockwood Residents' Foundation or the Union Gospel Mission (UGM).

I first knew "Mr. Fuhs" when we both worked at The Crescent store in Spokane. He was an example of a perfect gentleman and was admired by everyone. He and "Mrs Fuhs" were an outstanding couple. Best to his family.
