Harry Generaux Obituary

HARRY LLOYD GENERAUX
August 6, 1923 ˜ September 16, 2024

Harry Lloyd Generaux passed away peacefully on Sept. 16, 2024. He was born to Lloyd and Alice Generaux in Portland, OR. Harry lived in the Ridgefield area during his younger years and graduated from Ridgefield High School in 1941. He attended OSU for a very short time period before enlisting in the military and joining the Army Air Corps in 1942. He became a B-17 bomber pilot with the 8th Air Force, out of England, 398th Bomber group. He flew 35 missions, received six air medals, two unit citations, three bronze stars and misc. other acknowledgments and medals. During his time as a pilot, he was missing in action one time due to running out of fuel and landing at an airstrip in Bordeaux, France. He was there for two weeks while the locals secured gas for the plane. This was what we referred to as Harry’s Mission 19 and has been written about many times. He was fortunate to have only lost one crew member during those missions and it was due to lack of oxygen. When he came home, he married his high school sweetheart, Margaret Bearss, in 1946. He was called back up during the Korean War, but stayed stateside as a paratroop carrier pilot. The family moved to Tennessee during that time, then moved back and settled in Vancouver. During his life, he worked as a machinist, millwright and home builder. Harry was preceded in death by Margaret on Jan. 19, 2020; parents, Lloyd and Alice Generaux; and brother, Don Generaux. He has one son, David Generaux (Laura); two granddaughters, Kristin Cano and Megan Conahan; three great-grandchildren; a step granddaughter, Amy Cressy (Jamie); and four step great-grandchildren and two step great-great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held on Sept. 28 at 2 p.m. at VanMall Retirement Facility. A graveside service will be held on Oct. 1 at 2 p.m. at Evergreen Memorial Gardens. All are welcome to both services. He will be buried with military honors. He was loved by many and will be missed by many.

Harry and Margaret were my neighbors at Water's Edge in Salmon Creek for several years. They loved my cat, Tinkerbell, and frequently welcomed us into their home just to visit. Margaret was always very gracious and really loved Tinkerbell. They were both godly Christ-followers who made the world a better place just because they were in it. We kept in touch even after I moved back East. It will be a wonderful reunion when we see each other again in heaven! With love, from Carla and Tinkerbell

I met Harry, and his wife Margaret years ago when their son, Dave, married my sister Laura. Harry was soft, kind and had a great soul. Only got to see and visit him, and margaret 3 times, but enough to know, they both had the sweetest soul and I can say, they both were the best in laws for my sister, Laura, and above all, the best parents to Dave and granddaughters, as well as friends! Fly high Harry holding your love of your life, Margarets hand, and dance with the Angels! Until we all meet again! RIP Sir!

I´ve always had a soft spot in my heart for Harry Generaux because he encouraged me to ask out a beautiful young lady at church. We recently celebrated our 43rd wedding anniversary. Thanks again Harry, see you in heaven.

I met Harry many years ago as a client to my barber shop in Hazel Dell. Any time spent with Harry was special, his sense of humor, Christian testimony was always a part of any conversation. My sincere condolences to his family.
