Harry Howarth Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Curlew Hills Memory Gardens Funeral Home on Dec. 13, 2025.
Harry Richard Howarth, 86, was born in Warwick, Rhode Island, and lived for the past 49 years in Dunedin, Florida. He passed away peacefully on December 11, 2025.
Harry is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years, Maureen; his daughter, Sharon; his son, Steve; his daughter-in-law, Nerissa; his son-in-law, Kevin; and his four cherished grandchildren.
Known by his nickname "Dick," he was lovingly called "Poppie" by his family-a special name for a grandfather who meant so much to those who knew him. Just two weeks before his passing, Poppie and Maureen celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary surrounded by family, reminiscing about a lifetime of memories together. Though his memory was fading, his smile was ever present as he watched photos of family cruises, time spent with his grandchildren, walks on the beach, and joyful moments with their beloved Dalmatians, Lilly and Daisy. Poppie's love for Maureen and his family was constant and unwavering.
After serving several years in the US Army, Poppie enjoyed a distinguished 45-year career as a civil engineer, earning respect for his intelligence, strong work ethic, collaborative spirit, and thoughtful leadership. Even after retirement, his love of learning never waned. He delighted in sharing knowledge, engaging in meaningful discussions, and offering guidance and wisdom to his family.
Poppie will be remembered most for his deep devotion to Maureen, his warm and charming smile, his perseverance, and his ability to find the good in life. He was a special presence in our lives, and while he will be deeply missed, we find comfort in knowing he is now in a more peaceful place.
At Poppie's request, his life will be celebrated privately by his family, and no formal funeral service will be held. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the Humane Society of Pinellas at: humanesocietyofpinellas.org/donate.
