Harry Martin Jensen Jr went to Heaven on January 26, 2026, at his home in Carrboro.
Harry was born June 6, 1937, in Burke County NC, to the late Harry Martin Jensen
Senior and Mary Corrine Jensen.
Harry graduated from Valdez’s High School then attended NC State University. Harry
trained as an Army Medic and then served in the NC National Guard.
Harry married his high school sweetheart, the late Lynda Reep Jensen on July 6, 1958.
The young couple moved to Chapel Hill where Harry worked for Florida Steel for several
years. He then joined the architectural firm of Haken/Corley as a project manager and
field coordinator. Harry continued to work for the company for 56 years. During his
tenure he supported numerous projects including the construction of the Dean Dome,
renovations of Kenan Stadium and Boshamer Stadium at the University of North
Carolina, Chapel Hill, and Carter-Finley Stadium at NC State University. He decided to
retire in 2024 at age of 86.
Harry served as the first Scoutmaster of Boy Scout Troop 820, “the Braves”, when it
was founded March 19, 1969, sponsored by St. Thomas More Catholic Church in
Chapel Hill and later moved to Binkley Baptist Church. He was an active member of
Binkley Baptist Church where he served as Usher, and volunteered at many, many yard
sales. Harry enjoyed cooking, fishing, and Tar Heel basketball.
Harry was affectionately known as, “Dud”, by his children. He was a trusted source of
wisdom and life advice, always offering steady council, and a Godly perspective during
challenging times. Harry is survived by his son Marty Jensen and wife Gena Jensen,
and his daughter Susan Jensen.
Services will be held at 11:00 am on April 11, 2026, at Binkley Baptist Church in Chapel
Hill. A reception will follow the service at the church.
Harry Jensen will be remembered for his compassion for others, love of animals, and
his generous care of the environment. He requested that in lieu of flowers, memorials
be made to Binkley Baptist Church 1712 Willow Dr. Chapel Hill, NC 27514, or to Orange
County Animal Services 1601 Eubanks Road Chapel Hill, NC 27516, or The North
Carolina Botanical Garden 100 Old Mason Farm Rd, Chapel Hill, NC 27517
