Harry J. LeCours

LeCours, Harry J.-Of Lynnfield, July 5th. Beloved husband of Elaine M. (Dearin). Father of Marc and his wife Melissa LeCours, Steven and his wife Kelly LeCours and Lori and her husband Daniel Harrington. Son of the late Harry and Rose LeCours. Grandfather of Davis and Claire LeCours, William, Jack and James Patrick Harrington and Ariann and Brynne LeCours.

Harry had a strong sense of duty to his country and his community in which he lived. As a National Guardsman for 9 years (1949-1958; U.S. Army- 182nd Infantry Heavy Mortar Co.), a leader of Junior Achievement, and a Town of Lynnfield Selectman and Rotarian, he always wanted to make sure he left a place better off than when he entered it !

He also had a strong sense of fairness and fair play, but had the humility to admit defeat as long as everything was "fair and square"- whether it be in a tight game of horseshoes, cribbage, or in a scramble golf tournament; the only deviation to the latter being in a one-one golf game where his razor-sharp accountant mind seemed go randomly go askew. Alongside this, he always stood firm and held the belief in taking the morally correct decision path, and not because it was easy but because it was ALWAYS the right way to go in the long run.

In terms of hobbies, besides golf and card games, he was a true car enthusiast through and through- with a subscription to such publications as: Road and Track, plus Car and Driver. And, in his early years, being part of the Hot Rod club- The Stockers with his 1955 Plymouth V6 twin-carburetor-aka "The Big P". All which were followed by more a modest and family-oriented car choices, such as: a 1974 Dodge Dart, followed by a 1983 "Bad Cad"- Cadillac- Sedan DeVille, next was a trade-in for a souped up 1984 Olds Black Cutlass with chrome rims, but that's where things stalled out and safer choices became the right call in his later years.

Other pastimes, were his true enjoyment of popular music of his time- he danced, whistled, sang or just listened to such artists as: Frank Sinatra's "New York New York", Neil Diamond's "Sweet Caroline", "Like a Rhinestone Cowboy" by Glen Miller and even "Raindrops Keep Falling On My Head" by a lesser known B.J. Thomas and many, many more.

He took pride in doing his best around the house with various landscaping and other home DIY projects, more so to pinch a penny everywhere he could, but was well aware of when it was time to call in the calvary, especially when it came to electrical and plumbing work.

In his later years and into retirement, he spent his summers vacationing in Chatham, MA Cape Cod with his wife, children, grandchildren and many other friends at his vacation home. Here he enjoyed: digging for clams and crabbing, attempting to sail with a small Sunfish and swimming in the Atlantic Ocean, as well as freshwater fishing and swimming in a few of the local ponds in the area.

Harry was a member of the Rotary Club of Lynnfield, a former Selectmen, Junior Achievement member in Boston, and a member of the Lynnfield Junior Chamber of Commerce. A Memorial Service will be held for Harry in the Cota Funeral Home, 335 Park St. (corner of Park St. and Rte.28) NORTH READING, at Reading line on Friday, July 18th at 12pm. Relatives and friends may visit with the family Friday from 11am-12pm. Interment private.
