Obituary published on Legacy.com by Lary Funeral Home - Greenville from Feb. 8 to Feb. 12, 2026.
With heavy hearts, the family of Harry F. Leslie, age 93, of Moosehead Jct. Twp., ME shares the news of his passing on February 5th, 2026 at Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor, ME.
Born in
Camden, NJ on June 20th, 1932, Harry was the second of four children born to Frank and Miriam (Hill) Leslie. He graduated from Woodbury High School class of 1951 and began working for DuPont, with his father. Harry was drafted into the Army during the Korean conflict. He briefly played the trumpet and French horn in the 7th Division band before safely returning home. In 1958, Harry wed Joyce Hubbs and began their 61 years of life together until Joyce's passing in 2019. They raised two daughters, Jill and Jodi, in
Sewell, NJ (the real Sewell, not Washington Twp.) in the same house he left four years ago to move in with Jill.
Harry quickly adapted to life in Maine - stacking wood, moving snow, and becoming a well loved member of the community. He took good care of himself, keeping mind and body active with books, puzzles, and trips to the gym. He was proud to mention that he still drove, and he enjoyed forming friendships with the people he met in the course of weekly errands.
Through his long life Harry also enjoyed motorcycles, boats, hillbilly music, and making people laugh with a dry sense of humor that endeared him to all who knew him. Professionally, Harry was a Laboratory Technician for DuPont, spending most of his career working with Dr. Ted Koch in chemical research at the company's Experimental Station in Wilmington, Delaware. After two unsuccessful attempts at retiring beginning in his 50s, Harry eventually retired for real in his mid 70s when his department outsourced operations to China.
In retirement, Harry enjoyed feeding the birds, taking long rides into the country, and learning to play the electric bass. He was a loving caretaker to Joyce in her final years. Harry treasured time spent with his grandson, George, and delighted in welcoming George's fiancée, Tabitha, into his life as a granddaughter.
Harry is predeceased by his parents; sister, Doris; brother, Norman; sisters-in-law, Moonine and Mary; a nephew, Bruce/"Skip"; and wife, Joyce. He is survived by his brother, Donald Leslie (Sondra), cousin Catherine Buch, daughters Jill Wiese (George) and Jodi Leslie, and grandson George Wiese (Tabitha Day), as well as many nieces and nephews.
Details of a gathering to celebrate Harry's life in
Greenville, Maine, will be announced in the coming weeks. Interment at Eglington Cemetery,
Clarksboro, NJ, and memorial luncheon will take place in June. In lieu of flowers, the family asks you to remember Harry by living in his example of kindness, patience, and good humor. Memories and messages of condolence may be expressed at www.laryfuneralhome.com or www.smithfhmantua.com.
