Harry K. “Bud” Manning, Jr., 72, of Oklahoma City, passed away on May 21 after a lengthy illness. Bud was born in Edmond, Oklahoma to Harry K., Sr. and Mary Jo Manning and spent his early years on the family farm east of Edmond before moving into town as a teenager. He graduated from Edmond High School in 1970 where he was active in FFA. He later earned a B.A. in Psychology from the University of Central Oklahoma.
Bud wore many different hats but his life’s passion was helping others. He and his wife, Marcia, created a prison ministry in which they served as volunteer life skill teachers and Christian witnesses within the prison system and later as advocates and support for those returning to the community, along with their families, through service and fellowship at Penn Avenue Redemption United Methodist Church.
During his life he worked as an industrial mechanic, had a landscaping and lawn business, and worked in roofing, building restoration, and general repairs before retiring. Someone once said Bud could do more with a broken arm than any three men put together. He enjoyed gardening, bird watching, and solving both practical problems and entertaining puzzles.
Bud is survived by his wife of 27 years, Marcia; son Michael and wife Melonie; son Daniel and wife Adrianne; his grandchildren Brittni, Beverly, Bali, Brynli, Tuff, Waylon, Aiden, Ava and Everlee; and his sons’ mother, Karen Lamb. He is also survived by his sisters Jeannette Burroughs and spouse Gary and family; Lucy Middlebrook and spouse Earl and family; brother Robert Manning and spouse Diane. He was preceded in death by son David, his parents, and sister Mary Ann Baker.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Penn Avenue Redemption United Methodist Church or the American Cancer Society.
